Inspired by Matisse and Kate

Last week, as usual,  I was  a day with my youngest granddaughter, Kate, who happened to live in Amsterdam too. She was ill (a flue)  and coughed badly. Every time she coughed, she starts crying. Now it is my turn to have a flue. I get a vacination, but the 'American flue' which is in The Netherlands now, was an unexpected virus, so no protection against that one. Now I understand why Kate was crying, coughing is so painfull! But, just like Kate, I need to slow down, sleep a lot and wait a week to feel better. When I am tired of doing nothing. my husband takes good care of everything, I sew a little bit, when I am tired of doing nothing.

Kate again playing on her VW-busses baby quilt. She is il again too.
I do not lay in my bed all day. I am looking for Matisse information on the Internet. I am so interested in his cut outs and still need to go to the Matisse exhibition in Amsterdam this summer. I find a lot of information about Matisse: pictures, videos, interviews and animations on these two fabulous websites:  Matisse colored the paper sheets himself with paint before using them for his cut outs. He used the left over pieces too. The colors of his cut outs changes due to the quality of the paint.

I made two Matisse blocks and a another Matisse mini this week. All rough edge applique. When I look to the blocks, I understand why Matisse is a master and I just somone using his technique.
I runned out of thread to quilt the blocks. So I ordered big cones by mail. It was here after 20 hours! Almost quicker than driving to the shop by myself. I quilted the minis with a pattern  called 'Matisse meandering'. I used the thread to quilt my two minis with this pattern. I binded thse mini's and because after more than three years approving my binding routines I binded most of my sketchbook pages too. Still four to go!

Matisse minis: quilted and binded. I forget Matisses signature!!

Two new Matisse blocks waiting to be quilted.
Four sketchbook pages binded. Still four to go.

After cold weeks we have better, sunny wheather here. So I will dye cotton on our terrace for more Matisse blocks and may be a quilt as soon I feel better.

ZebraZ quilt and sketchbook

My first ZebraZ-block.
Lot of birthdays this week, but there was a little bit time to sew. I am busy with collecting black and white fabrics for a ZebraZ-quilt. It is a block of Laran of Sew Fresh Quilts Her tutotial is as always excellent. I have twenty different fabrics untill yet, so I will sew 20 ZebraZ blocks at least. I am thinking about a father and mother ZebraZ block with zebra stripes. I will call the quilt "What is wrong with our DNA?". My table if full with cutted fabric. !! It is funny and everybody knows it, but I find out better piecing comes with practice too. I still make mistakes, but far less than with piecing my elephants. Hurray!!!! But the head of the ZebraZ needs some attention.

The pile of black and whites
Another sketchbook page.
When I am babysitting by my husbands sun on monday I bring my sewing machine and a empty sketchbook page with me. When little Guus is sleeping (and he sleeps a lot) I can sew for my sketchbook, It is save for Guus when he is crawling on the floor, because I do not need pins. This sampler is one of the last pages with the theme circles.

Micro quilts.

Welcome to my new followers: Wolfje, Ada, Leanne and Glinda. Ada is Dutch but lives in Greece for many, many years. Nice to meet her like this.
Nieuwe volgers zijn Wolfje, Ada, Glnda en Leanne. Welkom.

Busy with babysitting this  again. Our youngest grandchild, Kate, is getting better. Less cramps, so she is more a happy baby and gives us a lot of smiles. When we put her in her crib she is not crying anymore but looking around with her big eyes until she sleeps. Yesterday her two grandmothers, were bathing her and she was so happy in the warm water. So glad she has less pain. It is awfull when a baby cries in pain and you can do so little for her.

The top for the micro quilts.( Micor wave dyeing)

I had some dyed fabric with beautiful colors. Last year I had a project with friends. We had a meeting almost every week.I used the fabric and made five micro quilts to give to them when we had our last meeting. I hope they use it as a mug rug.

For Floor, who is always telling us to meditate, like she does.
For Berthe who is always talking and thinking and has a lot of  ideas.

For Belinda who is always busy with beads.
For Jeannet who is always talking about her husband and little girl.

For Bob and his lovely wife. Their hearts are solid gold.
