Port and cheese at a late summer evening

We had a lovely present from a friend: a bottle of  Port and some delicious French and Dutch cheeses. To much for two, so we asked our neighbours to enjoy a cheese and port meal with us. So we sat on our terrace in the late evening sun and eat and talked outside untill eleven oçlock!!! I cannot remember sitting and eating outsite in autumn. I think it will be the last day this summer!  It is so nice to live in a neighbourhood with such nice neightbours. The very same day another neighbour brought us a cake.

We intend to go on a diet after this meal!
We have been baby sitting all our four grandchildren this week. Tuesday en Wednesday we had to take care of grandchildren too. Lucky we!! But it is again few time for sewing.

14 inch x 10 inch samplers.
I finished two samplers with fmq graffity/doodling. One with half fmq patterns and another one with almost none. No feathers, paisleys and that kind of patterns. I used a multi color brildor embroidery yarn on black cotton. When I sew the samplers I see a lot of mistakes, but after finishing and when not looking to stitches but to the whole sampler I love the colors and all different patterns. I haven't not decide if the binding black or sam other fabric. Have to think about that.

I find this patterns very nice for fmq, So I think that my two sandwiched samplers wil be filled with this patterns. So that is fun for in the evening. But I love this kind of more graffitty style fmq of the next picture too. It need a bigger sampler than a placemat and I need more marking. But more freedom and fantasy!. After the workshop 'cotton dyeing' next saturday, I will have a nice piece of colored cotton for this fun!

Baby wall quilt
De VW is appliqued on the top of the babt wall quilt for my daughter. Only de VW-logo had to be done. She had to decide which fabric I will use for the binding. Hope she likes it!

The Aiming for Accuracy Quilt along quilt is still waiting to be finished. Too busy.
De aiming-for-accuracy quilt moet nog even wachten. Te druk!

  1. Your FMQ is absolutely amazing - so intricate!

  2. Love your graffiti and the VW block. Sounds like you had a good time with the grand kids!

  3. wowie! All that and cheese too?? LeeAnna at not afraid of color

  4. I grew up with a VW bus as our vehicle. We loved it, and it is strange because my parents did not fit the "mold" of VW bus owners. Now I look at it nostalgically. I will have to try something like that for my brother or maybe his daughter.

  5. I can't wait to see where you go next with your graffiti fmq. Also I like the two patterns you have sketched out at the top, and your VW - what a cool thing for your grandson's wall.

  6. Your graffiti fmq is absolutely awesome Maartje!!!! Glad you visited my blog so I could visit yours and see all the beautiful fun you get into :)

  7. Thank you for visiting my blog, Maartje. Your Fmq grafitti is pretty amazing, the amount of detail is such a small area of fabric. Thanks for sharing your work.

  12. Hi Maartje,
What wonderful neighbours - please may I move next door at once? YOu have obviously been having the same lovely summer in Amsterdam that we have been having in south England. It has been a glorious summer and such a warm September.
YOu have really taken off with your Graffiti quilting and I love the 2 black and white sketches - did you do them? Both would make stunning FMQ designs. As to the zen doodle below - is that what you are planning to do in FMQ? that really will make eyes pop out. I shall stayed tuned for the next installement. And great to find you on Free Motion Mavericks. I think you can claim that title!
