'Wonderfil', metallic feather!!

I went to a workshop this week to sew with Wonderfil Thread. It was not a workshop, but playing all day with all the fun threads of Wonderfill. So fun!!!!  I tried to sew with metallic and hologram thread and other thick fun thread with metallic.
For me the fun part was all the pieces laying on the table sewn with the beautiful threads of Wonderfil. A lot of inspiration. For me not at the workshop, but now at home with all my thread.

Ik ben naar een workshop geweest van Wonderfill thread. Ik was het garen nooit eerder tegengekomen. Op de workshop kon je al het garen uitproberen. Onder andere prachtig metallic garen en zelfs hologram garen. Ook veel dik garen met glittereffect.
Het leukste vond ik wel de voorbeelden op tafel allemaal genaaid met het prachtige garen. Voor mij een bron van inspiratie weer. Deze week geen paperpiecing voor mij, maar spelen met mijn het garen uit mijn dozen.

I looked at the Wondefill website days before the workshop and was impressed by the Invasil 100 Wt thread. When my big spool with piecing thread is gone, I will sure use this for piecing and some quilting. Also the thread (80 Wt!) they use for the bobbin with almost everything I want to use in the future too, but first the thread in my boxes.

Ik heb op de website van Wonderfil gekeken voor ik naar de workshop ging. Ik was vooral nieuwsgiering naar het Invasafil 100 Wt! garen. De twee hartjes hier boven zijn ermee gequild.  Ook het draad dat ze gebruiken voor spoeltjes (80Wt!) is geweldig. Ik ga deze garens zeker voor quilten en piecen gebruiken, maar eerst mijn eigen garen opmaken.

than quilting straight lines with backing. Did not know the stitches
on my Husqvarna Sapphire were so fun.

I quilted this feather during the workshop with metallic and holgram thread and finished this at home.
Used my dyed fabric. I think it needs some quilting.

I have three more greens to play with matallics and make coordinating placemats.

By the way, I changed my mad bull.2 paper piecing pattern. A few less templates, bigger eyes and easier mouth. I gave this bull a Xmas hat too. But I love the first pattern with the tiny eyes too. That bull looks less friendly. So I leave that pattern on my blog.

Tussen haakjes, ik heb mijn Malle stier2 aangepast en een patroon gemaakt met grotere ogen en een andere mond. Er zijn iets minder patroondelen nu. Maar ik vind de eerste versie toch ook heel leuk. Die stier ziet er wat gemener uit met zijn kleine oogjes, dus laat ik het patroon maar op mijn blog.

First fmq sketchbook page: theme circles

Eerste pagina van mijn schetsboek: thema cirkels

I basted my almost last elephant parade quilt and it is ready to be quilted with elephant traces. Now it is really time for free motion quilting. I challenged myself to make sketchbooks with fmq pages. I will explore different themes. I was trying for weeks circles on white cotton, but everything looks dull. The same thing I experienced when I was at school and I had to draw on an big, empty white sheet of paper!!!! No inspiration at all. Yesterday I changed the color of the paper/cotton: black. I bought months ago 5 yards of black cotton and I sandwiched some samplers/sketchbook pages  (18 inch x 18 inch). While we were babysitting sleeping grandchildren I took some red and orange yarn and started free motion quilting. I just finished the first page of my sketchbook. I do not need to be satisfied, because it is the first attempt. I am curious to see my next pages espicially the last ones.

Mij bijna laatste olifantenparade quilt wacht om te worden gequilt met olifantenpoten.  Ik wil een 'schetsboek' maken met free motion quilting pagina's rond verschillende thema's. Het eerste thema is cirkels. Ik ben al weken bezig met witte katoenen proefquiltjes. Maar net als vroeger op school met de grote witte tekenvellen voor me, ontbreekt elke inspiratie. Gisteren heb ik besloten met zwart te beginnen. Ik heb maanden terug 5 m zwarte katoen gekocht. Daarvan heb ik nu een paar sandwiches gemaakt (40 cm x 40 cm) voor mijn schetsboek. Terwijl de kleinkinderen op bed lagen te slapen heb ik rode en oranje garens genomen en de machine aangezet. Ik heb net de eerste pagina af. Ik hoef niet tevreden te zijn, want het eerst slechts mijn eerste poging. Ik ben benieuwd hoe de andere pagina's eruit gaan zien.

The back: all black!!!

My Husqvarna Sapphire 875Q is sewing so well. Tension problems are all solved. I sewed with black yarn in the bobbin and the back is all black!!!

Mijn Husqvarna Sapphire 875Q loop weer als een zonnetje. Ik heb genaaid met zwart garen in de spoel en de achterkant is helemaal zwart, zoals het hoort!!!!

Hurray, my machine is back!!!

Yesterday there was a call from my dealer. After a month!!!!! Husqvarna fixed the tensionproblems with my machine. They replaced the tension unit, so there was a real problem. The dealer made excuses about not taking my problem serious. But no hard feelings, I can sew again. And my machine is stitching so beautiful!!! I brought back my daughters machine and I will free motion quilt the next few days. I almost forget how much fun it was stitching with this machine. There is still the SewCalGal's February fmq challenge ......

Gisteren eindelijk een telefoontje van de dealer. Eindelijk na precies een maand mijn machine terug!!!! Husqvarna heeft the spanningseenheid vernieuwd. Er was dus een serieus probleem en ik kreeg een zwak excuus van de dealer, dat ze de klachten niet serieus genomen hadden. Eind goed al goed, ik ben al lang blij dat mijn machine terug is en er de komende dagen gequilt kan worden. Ik moet de februari uitdaging van SewCalGal nog doen. De machine van mijn dochter heb ik al teruggebracht. Ik was bijna vergeten hoe heerlijk je kon free motion quilten met mijn eigen machine.

I am busy with the Elephant Parade quilt along. I sewed piles of blocks. made a wall hanging and an elephant quilt along top. I could not wait for the patterns of the flowers, so I drwaw my own and it turned out wel. I sew the babuquilt top,  but was to late for a present to a friend. So I wake up very early this morning and I used some blocks for this little wall hanging. I give it to my friend this morning and he was happy with it.
I had to go to the shop for batting before I can finish the baby quilt. A little time left to think about how to quilt this funny top.

Ik ben druk bezig met de Elephant Parade quilt along. Ik heb stapels met blokken genaaid. Ik wilde niet wachten op de patronen van de bloemen, daarom heb ik mijn eigen patronen getekend. Gisteren heb ik de top van de babyquilt genaaid en vanmorgen vroeg ben ik uit bed gegaan om van een paar blokken een klein baby quiltje te maken. Ik heb vanochtend weggegeven ook aan een vriend die pas vader geworden was.  Nu nadenken over hoe ik de babyquilt ga quilten. Eerst maar naar Amstelveen om tussenvulling te kopen.

Tomorrow this miniquilt  (23x23 inch) will be hanging on the wall of the babyroom of a good friend.
Just stitch in the ditch. I like the funny color accents in the binding.

I can fmq this quilt. I still have to sew the eyes.

I did not like piecing, but as always, when you learn something and you have rewarding results it is a joy to do. I like to do things quick, but that is not possible when you are piecing. It is fun when the block is (almost) perfect. So I can understand now why piecing is fun too and I will piece more often.
I thought a lot about how to quilt this quilt and did not want to dense quilting. The design is called 'Elephantparade'. After an elephantparade there are a lot of elephant footprnts, so the design for the quilting needs elephant footprints.

Ik vond het naaien van blokken een corvee, maar zoals altijd als je ets vaak doet en het resultaat je plezier geeft, wordt het leuk om te doen. I wil altijd graag snel dingen doen, maar dat lukt niet met het naaien van blokken en het is leuk als een blok (bijna) perfect is met passende puntjes. Ik snap nu waarom iemand het leuk vindt om blokken te naaien en ik ga het ook vaker doen.
Ik heb lang nagedacht over het quilten van dit quilt. Het ontwerp van het quilt heet 'Olifantenparade' en na zo'n parade heb je veel pootafdrukken van de olifanten, dat wil ik terug laten komen in het quilten.

Before I start quilting I need more practice in my sketchboek.

It is nice sunny weather, not too cold. I saw a little coot, so I think it is almost spring again!!

Het weer is zonning en niet te koud. I zag al een jonge meerkoetje. Het is bijna lente!!!

Quilting graffity with my sketchbook and problems with my Husqvarna Sapphire

I have always some white sandwiches ready to quilt. I thought my machine was OK and I wanted to have some fun sewing graffity. I drwaw a lot last weeks so it was time for needle and thread. I draw patterns I want to use in my sketchbook. You can see the result

Ik heb altijd een paar witte sandwiches klaar liggen. Ik dacht dat mijn machine weer in orde was en wilde wat graffity quilten. Ik heb zoveel getekend, dat het tijd werd voor naald en draad en wat kadootjes om weg te geven.Ik tekende patronen in mijn schetsboek die ik wilde gebruiken. Uiteindelijk is dit het resultaat.

 When I want to quilt graffity I choose patterns and draw them on a page in my sketchbook, After sewing a pattern I will randomly choose another pattern of filling.  I add different borders around patterns and add echo quilting. In my opion there must be some equilibrium between the patterns. On a small smapler like this (14 inch x 18 inch) only patterns in the middle may dominate. So the pattern at the bottom right is too big.

Als ik graffity will quilten, kies ik patronen en teken die in mijn schetsboek. Na het naaien van een patroon kies ik willekeurig een ander patroon of een vuller. Ik naai verschillende randen langs patronen en naai echos om de randen. Op een kleine proeflap zoals deze (30 cm x 40 cm) mogen alleen patronen in het midden groot zijn. Het patroon rechtsonder is dus te groot geworden.

After sewing the first half hour everything was OK. Same pattern on the back and only the thread of the bobbin visible. But after that i hear the tension of my Husqvarna Sapphire 875Q quilting machine changing during sewing and the thread broke. I tried a lot, but the problem was not to solve. I finished the sampler just for exersice. I brought my expensive sewing machine to the dealer, who keeps it everytime three weeks, to say there is no problem. I need to use his brother thread and my problems will be solved! The Aurifill thread is the problem!!! I emailed this time Husqvarna, because I have three years garantee and want to use bautiful thread other quilters use and sew with no tension problems. I like to hear from toher bloggers if they have problems with the Husqvarna Sapphire too and if they have a solution for the problem.

Het eerste half uur naaien ging prima. De spanning was goed en de achterkant zag er mooi uit. Maar toen kamen er rare geluiden uit mijn machine en veranderde de spanning terwijl ik naaide. Na een paar minuten breekt steeds de draad en de achterkant ziet er afschuwelijk uit. Ik heb een Husqvarna Sapphire 875Q en nog twee jaar garantie. Ik ben mijn machine nu twee keer met deze klachten kwijt geweest bij de dealer en dan krijg ik de machine terug met de mededeling dat er niets aan de hand is. Ik moet hun brother garen gebruiken en geen garen die ik wil, zoals Aurifill, die zoveel quilters gebruiken. Ik heb nu naar Husqvarna gemaild en hoop dat zij een oplossing hebben. Heeft een andere blogger ook deze problemen met de Husqvarna Sapphire en daar een oplossing voor. Ik zou dat graag willen horen.
