Just a mini mini

A fun little present for another quilter.

Terrible weather. It is spring! Light early in the morning and in the evening, it is sunny but cold and windy. I still wear my wintercoat and some mornings there is even ice on the window of the car!!!! We are busy with babysitting al most every day this week and when we have time we are busy with organizing the redoing of our teracce, which is on the roof of our neighbours. We bought the tiles but we had to get rid of the old tiles, ugly conifers and things we do not need anymore. There is always a lot to decide about things we never heard of.I hope the terrace is finished within two weeks and we can enjoy there beautiful wheather this summer.

Wat een vreselijk lenteweer. Het is wel heerlijk lang licht en we zien de zon geregeld, maar het is koud en winderig. Ik draag mijn winterjas nog regelmatig. Ik heb die jas zeker nodig bij het krabben van ijs van mijn autoruiten!!
We zijn bezig met ons dakterras. Zoveel beslissingen te nemen over dingen waarvan we niet eens wisten dat ze bestonden! De tegels zijn besteld, maar het terras moet nu eerst worden leeg geruimd. Weg die lelijke coniferen nog van de oude bewoners en alle rommel. Ik hoop dat we op ons nieuwe terras van een heerlijke zomer kunnen genieten.

This weekend we were in the house of my husbands sun and taking care of three months old Thom. His big brother Guus was with his other grandparents, so we enjoyed taking care of Thom. We take care of big brother Guus every tuesday. I took with me my sewing machine and some blocks to sew, but no chance. We took our time to play with Thom. The sweet guy let us sleep all night!!
The only thing I finished this week was a mini mini with scraps of my dyed fabric. It is a litle present for someone. I plan to sew some more of this quick little finishes. The mice patterns are ready to publish too, but I had to sew some mice block first.

Dit weekend hebben we op ons jongste kleinkind gepast. Drie maanden oude Thom is een vrolijke, makkelijke baby en we hebben het heerlijk gehad met hem. Ik had mijn naaimachine meegenomen en wat blokken om te naaien, maar het is er niet van gekomen. Teveel met Thom gespeeld! De lieverd liet ons wel de hele nacht slapen,
Het enige wat ik afgemaakt heb deze week, is een mini mini quiltje voor een quiltvriendin. Verder zijn de muizenblokken klaar om te pubiceren, maar ik wil er eerst een paar blokken van naaien.

Xmas wall hanging/ Kerstmis quilt

This Xmas I designed a wall hanging for next year Xmas. I collected pictures of  Xmas origami and made paper piecing patterns of 4, 6 and 8 inch each. The origami patterns have sewing lines where the paper is fold.  I will add this year more patterns and collect fabrics to sew the blocks. I will sew the pattern after the summer.
I will publish the patterns on my blog for free after finishing the wall hanging. All patterns are: 4, 6 and 8 inch and includes sewing instructions and templates for cutting.
If you want to quilt along with me, put this wall hanging on your to do list for Xmas 2016. Send me an email and I will post you the patterns as soon all patterns are finished. (I will design and add some more patterns). In spertember I will open a linky party where we can show off our quilts.

Deze Kerstmis heb ik deze kerstquilt voor aan de muur ontworpen. Daarvoor hebik plaatjes verzameld van kertmis origami en er patronen van gemaakt. De origami patronen hebben naden waar vouwlijnen zichtbaar zijn. Elk blok heeft een 4, 6 en 8 inch patroon. Ik heb nog meer plaatjes, dus zullen er meer patronen bijkomen.
Van de zomer ga ik dit quilt maken en ik hoop dat er quilters met me meedoen. Laat het me weten en ik stuur de patronen op.
De patronen worden op mijn blog gepubliceerd als het quilt af is. Alle patronen zijn gemaakt in blokken van 4, 6 en 8 inch en naaiinstructie en malletjes voor het snijden van de stof.

More than 100.000!!

Design for next years Xmas QuiltThe patterns will be available.

Unbeleivable more than 100.000 pageviews!! I love to visit lin ky parties, see what other quilters and sewers create. It is fun to comment and recieve comment, making friends all over the world. Since I publish my paper piecing designs and show them on Pinterest there are a lot more pageviews. I hope a lot of quilters has fun with my designs.

Ongelooflijk!! Meer dan 100.000 keer is een bericht van mijn website bezocht. Ik ga graag naar linky parties, omdat het zo leuk is om te reageren, reacties te ontvangen en vrienden over de hele wereld te maken. Maar sinds mijn paper piecing ontwerpen online staan en ik plaatjes gepost hebt op Pinterest, krijg ik veel meer pageviews. Leuk dat mijn patronen zo gewaardeerd worden.

For a cow block  you need three fabrics: a light, middle and
dark shade of a color and a background fabric. In my next post a pattern with Xmas hat

I did not sew a lot with Xmas. I wanted to sew Xmas cows for mini quilts, but I had only dark Xmas fabrics. For the cows I need light and dark fabrics of the same color. So I will shop for some light Xmas fabrics.  I made in stead some block designs for easy trees and used the dark fabrics in different colors with white background. There is a fabric market in Amsterdam on monday, may be I can find some light Xmas fabrics there today.

Ik heb de Kerstweek weinig genaaid, ik wilde graag kerstkoeien naaien, maar kwam er achter dat ik vooral donkere kerststoffen had. Voor de koeblokken heb je drie stofjes van een kleur nodig: licht, middel en donker en een achtergrond. Dus heb ik met de donkere stofjes kerstbomen genaaid op een witte achtergrond. Van de week ga ik shoppen voor lichte kerststofjes. Snel even naar de lapjesmarkt in Amsterdam zo.

For the tree of the first two blocks I used some orphan blocks, I made three years ago. They were the first blocks ever I pieced, and I did not know how to piece acurate and that you need light and dark fabrics to show the pattern. Is was fun to cut them in pieces for the trees. The music fabric is the only light Xmas fabric I have. I had also some green and red Xmas 'patchwork fabric'. I cutted and sandwiched it. It will be fun to free motion quilt these pieces and use the wavy lines. I will finish this mini quilts this week, so I have Xmas presents to give next year. This Xmas I gave away the mini quilts I made a year ago!

Ik heb voor de bomen van de eerste twee blokken oude blokken gebruikt die ik drie jaar terug, toen ik begon met quilten, gemaakt heb. Ik wist toen nog niet hoe je acuraat blokken kon naaien en dat je lichte en dinkere stoffen voor blokken moet gebruiken. Maar voor de kerstbomen was het prima. Het stofje met de muziek is de enige lichte stof die ik heb. 
Ik had nog wat mooie patchwork kerstmisstof, rood en groen. Dat heb ik klaar liggen om uit de vrije hand te quilten. Ik heb mooi rood en groen garen ervoor, heerlijk langs de golvende lijnen. Ik maak de miniquiltjes met de bomen en het patchwork stof af, dan heb ik voor volgend jaar al kerstcadeautjes. Dit jaar heb ik de miniquiltjes van vorig jaar weggegeven.

Another quilt activity this week was designing Xmas paper iecing patterns. Of course the tree patterns. I like to have a Xmas quilt and looked at different patterns. But I found cute origami pictures with Santa Claus and I made some paper piecing Santa block patterns. It was so fun to do. On my to do list for next Xmas will be my origami Xmas quilt. All patterns are ready and when I finished the quilt the patterns will be available.

Een andere quilt activiteit deze weken was het ontwerpen van kerstpatronen voor paper piecing. De patronen van het placemat en de blokken die ik genaaid heb, kunnen deels gedownload worden. Ik wil zelf graag een Kerstquilt om op te hangen met Kerstmis. Toen ik plaatjes van origami kerstmannen zag, wist ik wat ik wilde. Dus heb ik de patronen gemaakt voor de blokken van mijn origami Kertquilt die boven deze post staat. De patronen zijn beschikbaar zodra ik het quilt genaaid heb. De quilt staat op mijn lijstje voor het nieuwe jaar.

Cheese with a flag

Funny mouse with cheese and another stacked cups pattern

It is almost December, so the Light Festival is in Amsterdam again. I was surprised by the beautiful exhibits when I walked through Amsterdam last night. In my posts I will share some pictures for everyone who can not visit Amsterdam. Like last year I will take my two eldest grandchildren on a canaltrip to enjoy all the exhibits in the dark. Salijn and Sascha will love it.

Het is bijna december dus het lichtfestival is weer in Amsterdam. Ik was weer verrast door de prachtige lichtbeelden toen ik eergisteren door de stad liep. Ik zal af en toe wat foto's delen voor degenen die niet naar Amsterdam kunnen komen. Ik neem mijn twee oudste kleinkinderen, Sascha en Salijn, mee op een rondvaart. Ze vinden dat prachtig.

Finally I started with testing my mice patterns. I finsihed the first one. My husband told me, that the mouse pattern wouldn't be recognised as a mouse, but  I thought I knew better! So I tested the pattern. I wanted a cheese block to go along with the mouse block, Mice like cheese   I draw some patterns of pieces of cheese, but I was not satisfied. Then looking for cheese pictures with google I found the inspiration. We like to cut little cubes of our Edam of Gouda cheese and stick a flag in each cube. You find this platters at parties. My little mouse got his own cheese cube with a flag. I do not know if it is Gouda cheese or Edam cheese.

Ik ben toch begonnen met het testen van mijn muispatronen en de eerste is af. Mijn man zei dat niemand er een muis in zou herkennen, maar ik dacht het toch echt beter te weten. Ik wilde een kaasblok naast het muisblok, maar was niet tevreden met de patronen die ik had getekend. Terwijl ik op google naar inspiratie zocht, zag ik schotels met kaasblokjes. Mijn muis heeft nu zijn eigen kaasblokje met vlag.

I had fun with another pattern of stacked cups and saucers. Just quilting and the binding for another Xmas present.

Ik had verder plezier met nog een patroon met gestapelde schotels en kopjes.Ik zag het plaatje zoekend met Google en wist dat ik het moest proberen. Het blok is af. Nu even quilten en afbiezen en ik heb weer een Kerstcadeau.

Kittens

Two months ago I sewed this cat for my granddaughter. She loves the color purple. It was a free 4 inch pattern, but I enlarged the pattern to make a cushion and linked in my blogpost to the designer and gave her credits. The designer was not amused and let me know, that I was not allowed to enlarge her pattern. That was for me the reason to learn how to design my own patterns.

Twee maanden geleden naaide ik dit blok met het silhouet van een kat voor een kussentje voor mijn kleindochter. Paars is haar lievelingskleur. Het patroon vergrootte ik en op mijn blog linkte ik naar de designer. De ontwerpster was niet blij en liet mij weten dat ik haar patroon niet mag vergroten. Dat was voor mij de reden me te verdiepen in het maken van mijn eigen patronen.

When I sew this purple cat silhouette (QuiltArtDesigns)  I thought there was something funny with this pattern. For me it is the body of a kitten with a tail of a cat. I wanted to sew more kittens and downloaded pictures of kittens and practiced with designing. Untill now I tested two patterns and the patterns are ready to download. I did not decide weather I give the kittens eyes.

Nadat ik het blok van het kattensilhouet had genaaid(QuiltArtDesigns), vond ik dat er iets niet klopte met het patroon. Het lijf is van een kitten en de staart van een kat. Ik heb afbeeldingen van kittens bestudeerd en vier kittenblokken ontworpen. Ik heb twee patronen getest en die kunnen gedownload worden. Zelf heb ik nog niet besloten of ik de blokken ogen geef.

Orange cotton and an UFO

Like every thursday morning I went down town tomy daughter for a cup of coffee and to take little Kate with me. Instead of going home we walked together in the centre of Amsterdam. I like to breakfast in the city and this time breakfast was at one of the best confectioners in the city: 'Pattisier Kuyt'

Zoals altijd, ben ik vanmorgen de stad ingegaan om mijn kleindochter te halen. In plaats van naar huis te gaan, hebben we samen gewandeld en ontbeten bij Kuyt, een van de beste banketbakkers in Amsterdam.

The tearoom is not far away of the famous Amsterdam street market 'Albert Cuyp' with three shops selling cottons. The September color at Soscrappy is orange and it is already October. I found this three orange cottons. So five colors to my stash for paper pieced pottery and other small, funny blocks. I will sew some pumpkin blocks for halloween too. De kleur voor October at Soscrappy is brown so I will  look for brown fabrics in my stash and I sure will buy some.

Van Kuyt naar de Albert Cuyp is vijf minuten lopen en ik ben daar langs de lappen winkels geweest om oranje katoen te scoren. De septemberkleur bij Soscrappy is oranje, maar dat is geen courante kleur bij de AlbertCuyp-winkels. Toch heb ik drie lapjes gevonden. Het zijn mooie lapjes voor mijn paper-piecing-diggelwerk-blokken en andere kleine, grappige blokken. Ik zal er zeker pompoenen van naaien voor Halloween. De kleur voor oktober is bruin!!

First orange block

I love to design my own paper piecing patterns and I made a milk pot pattern for my orange cotton. After sewing the first block I improved the pattern and made also a coffeepot pattern by adding a lid to the pattern.

This is my UFO. An 'aiming for accuracy quilt along 2013' quilt. It is quilted already, but it is waiting for binding. I do not like the top and I think that is the reason why.
