ZebraZ quilt and sketchbook

My first ZebraZ-block. 

Lot of birthdays this week, but there was a little bit time to sew. I am busy with collecting black and white fabrics for a ZebraZ-quilt. It is a block of Laran of Sew Fresh Quilts Her tutotial is as always excellent. I have twenty different fabrics untill yet, so I will sew 20 ZebraZ blocks at least. I am thinking about a father and mother ZebraZ block with zebra stripes. I will call the quilt "What is wrong with our DNA?". My table if full with cutted fabric. !! It is funny and everybody knows it, but I find out better piecing comes with practice too. I still make mistakes, but far less than with piecing my elephants. Hurray!!!! But the head of the ZebraZ needs some attention. 

Veel verjaardagen van de week, maar er was toch tijd om wat te naaien. Ik zoek lappenwinkels waar ik kom af voor lapjes met wit en zwarte prints voor mijn ZebraZ-quilt. Het block is van Lorna van Sew Fresh Quilts. De tutorial is zoals altijd uitstekend. Ik heb tot nu toe twintig verschillende lapjes, dus het worden minimaal 20 blokken. Er komen nog een wat grotere vader en moeder ZebraZ bij en het quilt krijgt de naam: "Wat is wrong with our DNA?". Mijn tafel ligt vol met gesneden lapjes! 

Het is grappig en iedereen weet het al, maar ik ontdek dat het naaien van blokken ook beter gaat naarmate je meer blokken naait!. I maak nog steeds fouten, maar veel minder dan met de olifanten. Hoera!!! Maar kijkend naar de foto. zie ik dat er nog even naar het hoofd gekeken moet worden.

When I am babysitting by my husbands sun on monday I bring my sewing machine and a empty sketchbook page with me. When little Guus is sleeping (and he sleeps a lot) I can sew for my sketchbook, It is save for Guus when he is crawling on the floor, because I do not need pins. This sampler is one of the last pages with the theme circles.

Als ik appas bij de zoon van mijn man op maandag, neem ik mijn naaimachine en een lege schetsboek pagina mee. Als kleine Guus slaapt, kan ik naaien. Het is veilig voor Guus, want ik heb dan geen spelden nodig. Hij kan dus veilig kruipen over de vloer. Deze pagina is een van de laatsten met het thema cirkels.

Sewing for Xmas

When I cycled in Amsterdam I was frightened by these man in white suits.  What was happening there? Why those white suits?????? Two other man in normal clothes were busy there too.  I did not feel safe. What is there in the ground not far from the house of my new born granddaughter?!  On my way back a few hours later, the man in white suits were still there and I saw they did not move!! Then I realised they are statues in a sculpture of the Amsterdam Light Festval. 

Toen ik deze week door Amsterdam fietste schrok ik van deze mannen in witte pakken die samen met twee andere mannen in gewone werkkleding bij een gat in de weg bezig waren. Wat was hier aan de hand? Waarom die witte pakken? Wat zit er in de grond vlak bij het huis van mijn pasgeboren kleindochter??!! Ik voelde me erg onbehaakglijk. Toen ik terug reed uren later, stonden de mannen er nog. In dezelfde houding en onbeweeglijk! Ik realiseerde me toen dat het beelden zijn in een sculptuur van het Amsterdam Licht Festival was!!!! Het was die middag neergezet.

It was a busy week, but I had some time to sew and made another hummingbird placemat. It is so fun to sew the irregular feathers!! The placemats were a gift for the mother of our daughter in law. She invited us for a dinner. She also invited three of het husbands brothers and wifes. We had a delicious dinner and enjoyed the company of this wonderfull family. We are happy that my husbands sun is part of this family.

Ik was druk van de week, maar had wel wat tijd om te naaien en heb nog een kolibri-placemat gemaakt. Het is zo leuk om deze onregelmatige veren te quilten. Het was een kado voor de moeder van onze schoondochter. Ze heeft ons samen met drie broers van haar man en hun vrouwen uitgenodigd.  Het was een heerlijk diner en we hebben genoten van het samenzijn met deze gezellige familie. Fijn dat mijn man's zoon hoort bij zo'n gezellige familie.

Ik heb mijn kesrtstoffen te voorschijn gehaald. Ik heb nog tijd om wat kerstgeschenken te maken.

A bird and another coffee placemat

Two weeks ago I returned my sewing machine to the store. It will take more than three weeks!!!! before I have my machine back. The reason is sad, the old lady of the shop suddenly died. The lady reminded me always of my grandmother, who was busy in her shop untill she suddenly died at the same age too. Both ladies always busy in their shops, no retirement.

Twee weken terug heb ik mijn naaimachine weer terug gebracht naar de winkel. Het duurt wel drie weken voor ik mijn machine terug heb. De reden is verdrietig. De eigenaresse van de winkel is plotseling overleden. Ze deed me altijd denken aan mijn oma in haar manufacturenwinkel. Ook zij everleed op dezelfde leeftijd onverwacht. Beide altijd in hun winkel gewerkt, geen pensioen.

I had a lot of tension problems. The tension of the machine changed during sewing! Very awkward. So I borrowed my old sewing machine from my daughter. I can free motion quilt on this sewing machine, but this machine has tension problems too. Not when I am sewing clothes for my granddaughter, but when I I use my hopping foot.
I finished the 13 inch x 17 inch mini quilt. The bird I quilted two weeks ago and today. I did not know how to quilt the background. Untill I saw this irregular feathers in an zentangle book. It give the suggestion of leaves of a tree. I do not quilt the black space. I love the result. Finally a finsh again. I will sew four mini quilts with different birds and back grounds.

Ik heb veel problemen met de spanning. die veranderde terwijl ik naaide. Heel vervelend. Ik heb daarom maar weer mijn oude naaimachine van mijn dochter geleen. Ook deze machine heeft spannngskuren. Niet toen ik een zwarte-pieten-jasje voor mijn kleindochter naaide, maar wel zodra ik naai met mijn fmq-voet. Maar het is te doen.
Ik heb een  30x 40 cm mini quiltje gemaakt. De vogel had ik twee weken geleden al gemaakt, maar ik kon niet besluiten welke achtergrond ik zoud kiezen. In een zentangle boek, zag ik deze onregelmatige veren die de suggestie van bladeren geven. Gelukkig weer eens wat afgemaakt. Ik wil vier van deze mini quiltjes maken met verschillende vogels en achtergronden.

I bought several books about fabric deying and studied a lot. I have bought the materials and eat a lot of yoghurt so I have enough beakers to dey in. Within two weeks I need to finsih an art quilt. I meet a group of people every thursday and we all have to present an art piece within two weeks. I am the only quilter and I decided it need to be a quilt with fabric 'painted by the artist'! To nght I will experiment with fabric painting.

Wat quilten betreft heb ik verder veel gelezen over het verven van textiel. Ik heb de afgelopen weken een paar goede boeken gekocht en heb de materialen in huis. Ik heb veel yoghurt gegeten om voldoende plastic bekers te hebben. Voor 18 december wil ik een quilt afgemaakt hebben. Elke donderdag ontmoet ik een groep met mensen en 18 december willen we allemaal een kuntstwerk af hebben. Ik zal de enige quilter zijn. Ik ga vanavond al experimenteren met het verven van lappen voor mijn quilt.

Another mini quilt I quilted before my machine stopped quilting is this  coffee placemat. I collected a lot of sayings with coffee.Some very funny. I do not know why I choose these not funny words for the first in a row I want to finish! I used my coffie-filler pattern for the quilting.

Een ander mini quilt, dat ik gemaakt hebt voor mijn machine het begaf, is dezekoffie-placemat. Ik heb een flink aantla gezegdes met koffie gespaard en sommige zijn echt leuk. Waarom ik deze saaie woorden dan op d eerste in een serie placemats heb gemaakt, weet ik zelf niet. Voor het quilten heb ik mijn koffie-meander patroon gebruikt.

Lots of samplers and books

It is almost November and finally autumn arrived. No more eating on our terrace. Today it will be stormy, raining and much colder. I have been baby sitting since February and every time we go for a long walk, but today we had to stay at home for the first time! They live near the coast the place were the storm is most heavy. 

Most trees in the parcaround us house are still green, but that will change soon. So I think we can love the autumn colors soon.

Het wordt nu eind oktober  toch nog herfst. Ik pas sinds februari elke week op mijn kleinzoon en elke week hebben we kunnen wandelen. Maar vandaag stormt en regent het, Zij wonen aan de kust en daar is de storm het sterkst. De meeste bomen hier in het park zijn nog groen, maar ik denk dat we snel van de herfstkleuren kunnen genieten.

The play quilt for my daughter will be finished tonight. It needs some quilting and binding. My dauchter did not want me to quilt it, but I succeeded in convincing her that it is nescesary! Three weeks to go and the baby is there, we hope healthy and well!

Het bokskleed voor mijn dochter is bijna af. Alleen de bies en dan minimaal quilten. Ze wilde liever helemaal niet dat ik het kleed doorstikte, maar ik kon haar nog net aan het verstand peuteren dat het moest. Nog drie weken en dan is de baby er. Hopelijk gezond en wel!.

I binded this week six samplers. As always I am surprised how adding a binding changes the view of a sampler. When I make a sampler with patterns I love the process of sewing, but I see a lot of mistakes and uneven stitches. So when I square the sampler after sewing I often think, that it is not good enough for a placemat gift. But binding the sampler a few weeks later makes the difference. I have six placemats ready to give away.

Als ik een sampler maak, doe ik dat om patronen te oefenen en steeds gelijkmatiger te leren stikken. Als ik de samplers na het stikkern op maat snij zie ik veel fouten en ongelijke steken. De lappen lijken me dan niets om placemats voor vrienden of familie van te maken. Als ik na een paar weken de placemats afbies is dat een wereld van verschil. Ik heb nu weer zes mooie placemats om weg te geven.

Every time the patterns on a finished sampler are very tiny and I want to sew them bigger. I think I need to mark the first patterns before stitching. I hope that all patterns turn out bigger.

Steeds als ik een lap heb gestikt dan zijn de patronen kleiner dan ik wilde. Ik denk dat ik bij een volgende sampler de eerste patronen markeer. Dat moet helpen alles groter te houden.


I bought this week two books to read more about deying fabrics and quilts. They were new and I had to pay only 8 euro for both books. For the review of the first book of C. June Barnes I looked in amazon.com and I learned that the book is in English far more expensive then 4 euro! That is for the first time. Books, fabrics and everything you need for quilting is more expensive in Europe. After the renovating of the bathroom, after a week it is finished. But I had to order Coloring by accident at Amazon.com and with the costs of shipping it is more expensive. You win some, you loose some!

 I heb van de week twee nieuwe boeken over het verven van quilts en lappen gekocht bij bol.com. Voor de review van de boeken heb ik gekeken op amazon.com en ontdekte dat het boek over kleur en textuur van C. June Barnes daar vele malen duurder is als de vier euro die ik ervoor betaald heb. Dat is de eerste keer dat ik voor het quilten hier iets goedkoper kan krijgen dan in Amerika! Ik moest de verfbijbel 'Coloring by accident', kopen bij Amazon.com. Dat was dus weer flink duurder. Het kan niet altijd feest zijn.

Renovating the bathroom/De badkamer verbouwen

Past week two very hard working experts had been busy renovating the bathroom. We hired a Dutch company, but the men working at our bathroom are Victor from Russia and Pavel from Latvia.Very skilled and very friendly. They love my coffee and home made cake and cookies. I can laugh with Victor, who speaks Dutch and English as well, and Pavel is always looking worried about my wishes and explains what is possible and what is not possible. Almost everything is possible.  They clean up every evening and return every morning very early. But there is a lot of dust in the house. So I have to dust every day. Buying and deciding all the sanitair costs a lot of time. There is always unexpted decissions to make. I had to buy everything on the Internet!!! But I am happy to go to the showroom in Amsterdam, where skilled men advise me before ordering.

De hele week zijn we bezig geweest met de renovatie van onze badkamer. Hoewel we met een Nederlands bedrijf werken, doen Victor uit Rusland en Pavel uit Letland het werk. Ze werken goed, zorgvuldig en netjes. Elke avond ruimen ze op en 's ochtends vroeg bellen ze weer aan. Met Victor, die Nederlands en Engels spreekt,  kan ik grappen maken en Pavel heeft altijd een zorgelijke trek bij elk voorstel of wens. Hij legt altijd uit wat wel of niet kan en lijkt me heel redelijk. Maar uiteindelijk komt hij met voorstellen, zodat bijna alles kan wat we willen. Maar wat gaat er een tijd zitten in iedere keer het huis stofvrij maken. Ook het kopen van het sanitair kost tijd. Er zijn zoveel dingen waaraan je moet denken. Ook dit koop je tegenwoordig op Internet, maar gelukkig is er een showroom in Amsterdam, waar ik uitstekend geholpen wordt voor ik de spullen bestel.

The shower! In twoo weeks I can take a shower.

Together with my granddaughter I discovered swimming again, but only in warm water! I always thought there was only cold water in the swimming pools! I hate jumping in cold water! But I love the warm water pool and I intend to swim every week a few times. The swimming pool is almost next door! It is a very old, but next to it, they are building a new beautiful swimming pool. On the walls in the old swimming pool are funny paintings. It make me think of new quilt projects with funny elephants and caterpillars.

Met mijn kleindochter heb ik het zwemmen weer ontdekt, maar nu in warm water! Ik dacht dat al het water in zwembaden nog altijd koud was! Ik ga nu in de strijd tegen de kilootjes elke week een paar keer zwemmen, heerlijk! Het zwembad vlakbij ons is oud, maar ernaast verschijnt al een prachtig nieuw bad. In het oude bad staan op de muur allemaal grappige tekeningen van bijvoorbeeld een olifant of duizendpoot. Ik moet daarbij steeds aan nieuwe quiltprojecten denken.


Dieting is difficult with friends from Maroc, Iran and Irak. My husband helps some students from university better understanding , better speaking and writing  Dutch. Sometimes they have diner with us and sometimes they cook for us. This weekend we went to Simo from Maroc. He and his Dutch girlfriend cooked delicious tajine withquince fruit for us and they made a delicious cheese cake with orange blossom water.
Hodda from Iran and het Iraqui husband eated with us. We cooked a Indonesian rice table for them. There are a lot of Durch peaple with roos in Indonesia, that's why Indonisian food is popular in The Netherlands. And of course it is delicious.
I swimmed three times last week and keep me diet, but I lost  no weight! Have to try it again this week.

De strijd tegen de kilo's is moeilijk met vrienden die uit Marokko, Irak en Iran komen. Mijn man helpt oudere, integrerende studenten met Nederlands voor hun studie en scripties. Zij komen af en toe bij ons eten of wij eten bij hen. Dit weekend hebben we bij Simo uit Marokko en zijn Neerlandse vriending heerlijk Marokaans gegeten. Hodda en Saïd uit Iran en Iraq hebben bij ons Indonesisch gegeten. Het hele effect van een week lijnen en zwemmen is weg!

I had to little  time to sew this week, but I have made two mini quilts of the bonus-fabric I dyed at the workshop of Will Opio Oguto. The inspiration of the design is an art quilt made by Will too. Follow the link and you will see this beautiful quilt/ I had just enough fabric for the tops and binding. The back is a green shade cotton, also dyed at the workshop. I used red and green thread for the quilting.
My husband said that the quilts are my first ''art guilts'. How sweet he can be!!!!

Ik had weinig tijd om te naaien deze week, maar ik heb toch deze twee miniquilts gemaakt van mijn geverfde lap op de workshop van  Will Opio Oguto. De inspiratie van het design van the miniquilts zijn ook van Wil. Volg de link en je ziet haar prachtige vogelquilt. De lap was net groot genoeg voor de top en de bies, de achterkant is lap in een lichtgroene kleur, ook van de workshop. Ik heb rood en groen garen gebruikt voor het quilten.
Mijn man merkte op dat hij deze twee quiltjes meer 'kunstwerken' vond. Wat kan hij soms lief zijn!!!!

Next week I like to sew a little bit more. I make a play quilt with four small VW-busses My daughter wants them in the same color as het wall quilt VW-bus. I have really soft woolen batting. I bought it in this excellent quiltshop: Mariana's quiltcorner.

Volgende week ga ik een boxkleed maken voor de baby van mijn dochter die over een maand geboren wordt. Vier VW-bussen erop in dezelfde kleur als haar VW-bus-wandkleed. Ik heb nog heerlijk wollen tussenvulling, gekocht in Marina's quiltcorner in Bilthoven.

A new project with VW-busses: a playmat for my pregnant daughter.

I want to make a 38 x 24 inch sampler with graffitty patterns. Just to practice new patterns.  I will use beautiful multicolored Superior thread. I need to draw a lot in my sketchbook too. Some patterns are easy to sew, but for some I need to 'train' my eye hand coordination. Of course I will try some wonderful patterns of my color book for adults.

Ik ga een 60 x 80 cm proeflap quilten met graffitty patronen. Daarvoor moet ik veel tekenen, omdat niet alle patronen even makkelijk voor me zijn. Voor veel patronen moet ik mijn oog-hand-coordinatie trainen. Natuurlijk haal ik veel patroontjes uit mijn kleurboek voor volwassenen.

Port and cheese at a late summer evening

We had a lovely present from a friend: a bottle of  Port and some delicious French and Dutch cheeses. To much for two, so we asked our neighbours to enjoy a cheese and port meal with us. So we sat on our terrace in the late evening sun and eat and talked outside untill eleven oçlock!!! I cannot remember sitting and eating outsite in autumn. I think it will be the last day this summer!  It is so nice to live in a neighbourhood with such nice neightbours. The very same day another neighbour brought us a cake.

We hebben van een vriend een plateau met heerlijke kazen en een fles port gekregen. Teveel voor twee, daarom hebben we de buren gevraagd om de kaas en port samen met ons soldaat te maken. Dat hebben we buiten op het terras gedaan en we hebben tot elf uur buiten gezeten. Het is waarschijnlijke de laatste avond dat dat kon dit jaar. Het is heerlijk om in een buurt met aardige buren te wonen. We kregen van een andere buurvrouw trouwens een cake dit weekend!

We intend to go on a diet after this meal!

We have been baby sitting all our four grandchildren this week. Tuesday en Wednesday we had to take care of grandchildren too. Lucky we!! But it is again few time for sewing.

We hebben op alle kleinkinderen gepast deze week. Komende dinsdag en woensdag passen we ook weer op. We vinden dat een buitenkansje, maar het betekent weinig tijd om te naaien.

14 inch x 10 inch samplers.

I finished two samplers with fmq graffity/doodling. One with half fmq patterns and another one with almost none. No feathers, paisleys and that kind of patterns. I used a multi color brildor embroidery yarn on black cotton. When I sew the samplers I see a lot of mistakes, but after finishing and when not looking to stitches but to the whole sampler I love the colors and all different patterns. I haven't not decide if the binding black or sam other fabric. Have to think about that.

Ik heb twee proeflappen met fmq graffity/doodling genaaid. Op de ene nog veel fmqpatronen, maar op de andere niet. Geen veren of paisleys. Ik heb multikluren borduurgaren van brildor gebruikt. Als ik de patronen naai, dan zie ik al die foutjes die ik maak, maar nu het af is, valt het resultaat mee. Alleen moet ik nog beslissen hoe ik de lappen afbies, Zwart of een ander patroon. Moet ik nog even over nadenken.

I find this patterns very nice for fmq, So I think that my two sandwiched samplers wil be filled with this patterns. So that is fun for in the evening. But I love this kind of more graffitty style fmq of the next picture too. It need a bigger sampler than a placemat and I need more marking. But more freedom and fantasy!. After the workshop 'cotton dyeing' next saturday, I will have a nice piece of colored cotton for this fun!

Ik vind deze patronen zo leuk, dat ik mijn twee andere samplers die klaar liggen voor fmq er voor ga gebruiken. Maar onderstaand, meer graffity-achtig patroon is ook leuk om te doen. Ik heb er een grotere proeflap voor nodig, dan de placemats die ik klaar heb liggen. Zaterdag ga ik naar de katoenverven workshop en een van de lappen die ik daar ga verven, ga ik voor dit patroon gebruiken.

De VW is appliqued on the top of the babt wall quilt for my daughter. Only de VW-logo had to be done. She had to decide which fabric I will use for the binding. Hope she likes it!

De bus is ook vastgezet op de top van de baby quilt voor mijn dochter. Het VW-logo nog en dan afbiezen. Zij mag kiezen welke van de stofjes ik zal gebruiken. Hoop dat me dochter het mooi vindt!

Borders, a frog and a new sewing machine and a new house!

The last two days I was busy with the borders and the back of my Aiming for accuracy quilt. I thought I can sew, so easy peacy! How wrong! May be when I have pieced a lot more blocks, I will laugh, but now I am a little bit frustrated. (not too much!) Piecing accurate is a matter of experience. And that is just what is missing. Two days to add three simple borders! and I need to buy some more contrasting fabric to finish the top!

Ik ben de laatste twee dagen druk bezig met de randen en achterkant van mijn Aiming for Accuracy quilt. I dacht het wel even te doen, maar dat had ik goed mis. Ik zal eerst meer blokken moeten naaien en dan lag ik er om, maar nu steekt het me wel. Accuraat blokken naaien is een kwestie van ervaring en dat heb ik niet. Twee dagen om drie simpele randen aan mijn quilt te naaien. Morgen nog even stof kopen om de laatste rand af te maken.

For our fourth grandchild!

Two weeks ago I bought fleece, a fat quarter lovely green fabric and yellow frog fabric and made this frog bag for the baby shower of our daughter in law and our fourth grandchild! Somewhere I changed the thread in the bobbin for water soluble thread, but I did not know when! Fortunately I had another present to give.
After spraying with water the frog lost his mouth and one eye and I had four pieces of fabric again. After half an hour the bag was finished! I wish there was a spray to dissolve cotton or polyester thread!
Months ago I pinned a picture of a baby bag like this made of a cushion cover. The picture does not link to an website, so I do not know who to give credits for the frog bag idea. The couple was very happy with the bag!

Twee weken terug kocht ik fleece op de Albert Cuyp en twee mooie katoentjes bij mijn favoriete quiltwinkel in Tuindorp Oostzaan voor deze baby draagzak. Ik wilde het bij de baby shower van mijn schoondochter geven. Over een maand krijgen zij een jongen of een meisje!  
Halverwege het naaien, heb ik mijn spoel verwisseld voor een spoeltje met oplosbaar draad! Er lag gelukkig nog een leuk ander  cadeau om te geven en van de week heb ik de zak overnieuw gemaakt. Ik heb met de plantenspuit de zak bespoten en toen verloor de kikker één oog en zijn grote mond. De vier lappen kon ik zo van elkaar halen.Was er maar een spray om katoen of polyesterdraad op te lossen!
De zak met kikker is niet mijn idee. Maanden geleden pinde ik een foto met een babydraagzak gemaakt van een kussensloop. De afbeelding op Pinterest linkt niet meer naar een website, dus ik weet niet wie ik de eer moet geven voor het idee.

Tomorrow I go to the shop to look at a new sewing machine, a machine for quilting! I think about the Husqvarna Sapphire 875Q. It is on sale for 1100 euro, that is a big discount. It is my birthday in a few weeks, 65, and the family want to give me a present! Lucky me!

Husqvarna Sapphire 875Q

Morgen ga ik naar de winkel om naar een nieuwe naaimachine te kijken. Ik wil graag een Husqvarna Sapphire 875Q. (Hij is nu 1100 euro bij Wouters Naaimachinehandel, Van Woustraat in Amsterdam.) Ik ben over een paar weken jarig (65!) en ik krijg een cadeau van de familie! Bof ik even!





Just heard we have the house we wanted. A little bit tough negociations and we had to take a pause of two weeks before re-opening the bidding, but we can move in before Christmas! A lovely house with big terrace at the edge of a beautiful park with lots of birds and a tiny river 15 minutes away from the centre of Amsterdam! We are lucky! Lovely place to have our grandchildren with us.

Net gehoord dat we het huis hebben dat we wilden. Het waren moeizame onderhandeling die we twee weken hebben moeten onderbreken, maar het is gelukt en we verhuizen voor Kerstmis! Een mooi huis aan het rand van een park met een kleine breek op vijftien minuten van het centrum van Amsterdam!  Wat een geluk! Heerlijk voor als de kleinkinderen komen.

That's life

A quiet week. We looked for houses and visited the two houses on our list, but we did not decided which house we will go for.
Yesterday I had dinner with a dear friend. We lived next to each other when we raised our children. She is divorcing after 42 years of marriage! Of course another woman. She is strong but it is a sad story. Her husband is so out of character now, that she is happy to divorce, but there is a lot of sadness. A 42 years marriage has a lot of good moments. When my husband left me after 25 years of marriage, I missed those little moments too. Looking proud together to the children, Sunday breakfast, riding in the car together ........
But both our husbands seemed to have secrets that drove them away from there marriage. Things we both heard about after our marriage. When we had known,  we have ended our marriages years before. I still wonder how someone can stay in a marriage with those secrets and lies and talking about love?I am afraid I will never find the answer. But lives go on and I have a wonderful husband and I love the suns and their wives who came with him. Two more grandchilds and another one within two months! Women are strong. My friend is strong too!

Een rustig weekje. We hebben de huizen bekeken waar we in  geïnteresseerd zijn maar nog geen beslissing genomen.
Gisteren uit eten geweest met een vriendin. We woonden naast elkaar toen onze kinderen opgroeiden. Na 42 jaar huwelijk is haar man vertrokken.Ze is sterk, maar het blijft triest. Het is nu een compleet andere man en ze zou niet langer met hem getrouwd willen zijn nu, maar het blijft triest. In 42 jaar huwelijk heb je ook gelukkige momenten. Toen mijn man me naar 25 jaar huwelijk verliet, miste ik ook het meest die kleine dingen. Samen trots naar de kinderen kijken, het ontbijt zondagś , samen rijden in de auto......
Maar beide echtgenoten hadden geheimen die beide uiteindelijk weg dreven uit hun  huwelijk.  Als we het geweten hadden, hadden we beide ons huwelijk jaren eerder beëindigd! I vraag me altijd af, hoe iemand in een huwelijk an blijven met zulke geheimen en leugens en doen alsof ze van iemand houden? Ik zal wel nooit het antwoord vinden.Maar het leven gaat verder. Ik heb een fijne man  en met hem zijn zijn zoons en vrouwen in mijn leven gekomen, met schatten van kleinkinderen. Vrouwen zijn sterk en mijn vriendin is ook sterk!

But although the pain  we enjoyed our evening together. We had dinner in a small wine bar. They have excellent wines and some delicious food. I love their goat cheese croquettes.

Toch hebben we genoten van ons etentje in een klein wijnbarretje in Hilversum.
Daar heb je heerlijke wijnen en een kleine kaart met heerlijke gerechten. Ik ben gek op de geitenkaascroquetten.

Of course I had my sewing machine on the table. I had to finish a border for a medaillion quilt swap. I received a beautiful star center piece made by a professional. It was of course paper pieced. I shopped for matching fabrics at my local quilt shop. I made a border with eight paper pieced points.  Points in the corners and in the middle of the borders. It was my very first paper piecing. It looks so easy on You Tube tutorials!!!! But after two days!!! of sewing the star with border is ready to send away for another border.

I am pleased with the result and the fabrics, but I cannot show it to you. But I will show you my first ever paper pieced  blocks.

Natuurlijk heb ik de naaimachine op tafel gehad. Ik heb een rand genaaid aan een prachtig block met een ster voor een 'Medaillion quilt swap'. Aan de prachtige ster moest ik een rand van 2 inch naaien. Ik heb voor het eerst blokjes gemaakt met paper piecing. Dat is toch niet zo makkelijk als het lijkt op een you tube filmpje. De stoffen die passen bij de ster heb ik gevonden bij Quiltshop de Bricoleur in tuindorp Oostzaan. Ik ben toch tevreden over het resultaat, maar ik heb er ookj twee dagen over gedaan! Helaas kan ik voorlopig alleen de blokjes laten zien. De top is nu onderweg naar Israel voor de volgende rand.

Other finishes this week are postcards and blocks for my quilt along. I had a lot of trouble with my machine. I used about ten needles! I had to rip out a lot of stitches, put the thread through the needle again and again and used my screw driver a lot. Yesterday I decide enough is enough and brought my machine to the store. It will last 14 days!!!! That is too long. But I saw how busy they were so protesting would be not fair. I had to find another solution. The good thing: I have more time for house hunting.


Van de week heb ik verder kaarten en blokken voor de quilt along genaaid. Het was doffe ellende met een naaimachine die steeds vastliep, naalden die braken en draad wat steeds weer ingeregen moest worden. Ik heb heel wat steken uit moeten halen en tien nieuwe naalden gebruikt! Gisteren heb ik mijn naaimachine weggebracht. Het duurt veertien!!! dagen voor ik de machine terug krijg. Maar protesteren had geen zin. Ik zag de enorme stapel gerepareerde machines en de stapel die weer klaar stond voor reparatie. Ik moet iets anders verzinnen, maar heb nu genoeg tijd voor het zoeken naar een huis.

I pieced this blocks on my old machine (Husqvarna 2000). It is a better piecer than my Husqvarna Emerald.

Ik heb deze blokken genaaid met mijn oude Husqvarna 2000 die ik naar de kringloop wilde brengen. Maar het ging veel beter dan met mijn Husqvarna Emerald!
