It is SPRING!!! I love the light when I wake up and when we are sitting in the room after dinner! Today was a very sunny day and it was not cold without a coat. I love the hyancinths on my terrace. Within three weeks we have a redo of our terrace. I hope we can enjoy our terrace a lot this year.

Heerlijk, eindelijk lente! Eindelijk een zonnige dag en ik geniet van de hyacinthen op mijn terras. Over een week of drie is ons terras vernieuwd met nieuwe tegels en planten. Ik hoop dat we deze zomer vaak van ons terras kunnen genieten.

Tablerunner practice piece with Ikea 60 inch  Vinterbar fabric

This week I finished the free motion  practice quilting of this table runner of IKEA Vinterbar fabric. I do love free mtion quilting again. It was a lot of micro quilting and the result is OK, but I lost a lot of routine in half a year. I decided to cut the runner in four placemats. I never use a tablerunner. Twee placemats are binded, For the other two I had to go to Ikea to buy some more cotton. I have another tablerunner sandwiched for more fmq practice and fun, I hope this time better stitches and a little mor speed this time.

Deze week heb ik uren gequild aan mijn oefentafelloper met Ikea Vinterbar katoen. Ik vind quilten uit de vrije hand leuk, zeker als het goed gaat, maar ik heb in een half jaartje heel wat routine verloren. Het resultaat van de  tafelloper is OK, maar niet meer dan dat, De tafelloper is in vier placemats gesneden, want lopers gebruik ik eigenlijk nooit. Twee placemats zijn al afgebiesd, maar mijn Ikea katoen is op, dus moet ik naar IKEA.
Ik heb nog een tweede taffeloper liggen. Die ga ik volgende week quilten. Elke avond en uurtje. Ik hoop dat het nu beter en wat sneller gaat.

Ik geef mijn placemats altijd weg, maar deze zijn perfect bij mijn zwart en witte Arabia serviezen. Dus ze komen op mijn tafel.

A helicopter for Guus. The pattern will be available next week.

Every tuesday morning I pick up little Guus for a day. When we drive back to my house he is so happy to see trains (on a lucky day we see six trains!), buses, planes and lorries. I often go with him by bus! to the railway station. We go on the escalator or in a elevators to all the platforms to see trains arriving and leaving. When we wait for the bus to go back he can see the boats on the river IJ. Last week he was talking about helocopters. So I made a helicopter pattern for him. The pattern is finished and I will test te block this weekend. So next tuesday he will have his own helicopter placemat.

Elke woensdag haal ik kleine Guus op bij zijn ouders. Op de terugweg is hij blij bij elke trein, bus, vliegtuig en vrachtwagen die hij ziet. Als hij geluk heeft ziet hij wel zes treinen. Ik ga vaak met hem naar het Centraal station met de bus! We gaan dan met de roltrap of de lift naar alle perrons om treinen te zien aankomen of vertrekken. Als we op de bus terug wachten kan hij de boten op het IJ zien.
Van de week sprak hij over helicopters. Ik heb daarom een patroon van een helicopter gemaakt. Ik ga het blok dit weekend testen zodat hij volgende week zijn eigen helicopter placemat heeft.

Unbeleivable more than 100.000 pageviews!! I love to visit lin ky parties, see what other quilters and sewers create. It is fun to comment and recieve comment, making friends all over the world. Since I publish my paper piecing designs and show them on Pinterest there are a lot more pageviews. I hope a lot of quilters has fun with my designs.

Ongelooflijk!! Meer dan 100.000 keer is een bericht van mijn website bezocht. Ik ga graag naar linky parties, omdat het zo leuk is om te reageren, reacties te ontvangen en vrienden over de hele wereld te maken. Maar sinds mijn paper piecing ontwerpen online staan en ik plaatjes gepost hebt op Pinterest, krijg ik veel meer pageviews. Leuk dat mijn patronen zo gewaardeerd worden.

I did not sew a lot with Xmas. I wanted to sew Xmas cows for mini quilts, but I had only dark Xmas fabrics. For the cows I need light and dark fabrics of the same color. So I will shop for some light Xmas fabrics.  I made in stead some block designs for easy trees and used the dark fabrics in different colors with white background. There is a fabric market in Amsterdam on monday, may be I can find some light Xmas fabrics there today.

Ik heb de Kerstweek weinig genaaid, ik wilde graag kerstkoeien naaien, maar kwam er achter dat ik vooral donkere kerststoffen had. Voor de koeblokken heb je drie stofjes van een kleur nodig: licht, middel en donker en een achtergrond. Dus heb ik met de donkere stofjes kerstbomen genaaid op een witte achtergrond. Van de week ga ik shoppen voor lichte kerststofjes. Snel even naar de lapjesmarkt in Amsterdam zo.

For the tree of the first two blocks I used some orphan blocks, I made three years ago. They were the first blocks ever I pieced, and I did not know how to piece acurate and that you need light and dark fabrics to show the pattern. Is was fun to cut them in pieces for the trees. The music fabric is the only light Xmas fabric I have. I had also some green and red Xmas 'patchwork fabric'. I cutted and sandwiched it. It will be fun to free motion quilt these pieces and use the wavy lines. I will finish this mini quilts this week, so I have Xmas presents to give next year. This Xmas I gave away the mini quilts I made a year ago!

Ik heb voor de bomen van de eerste twee blokken oude blokken gebruikt die ik drie jaar terug, toen ik begon met quilten, gemaakt heb. Ik wist toen nog niet hoe je acuraat blokken kon naaien en dat je lichte en dinkere stoffen voor blokken moet gebruiken. Maar voor de kerstbomen was het prima. Het stofje met de muziek is de enige lichte stof die ik heb. 
Ik had nog wat mooie patchwork kerstmisstof, rood en groen. Dat heb ik klaar liggen om uit de vrije hand te quilten. Ik heb mooi rood en groen garen ervoor, heerlijk langs de golvende lijnen. Ik maak de miniquiltjes met de bomen en het patchwork stof af, dan heb ik voor volgend jaar al kerstcadeautjes. Dit jaar heb ik de miniquiltjes van vorig jaar weggegeven.

Another quilt activity this week was designing Xmas paper iecing patterns. Of course the tree patterns. I like to have a Xmas quilt and looked at different patterns. But I found cute origami pictures with Santa Claus and I made some paper piecing Santa block patterns. It was so fun to do. On my to do list for next Xmas will be my origami Xmas quilt. All patterns are ready and when I finished the quilt the patterns will be available.

Een andere quilt activiteit deze weken was het ontwerpen van kerstpatronen voor paper piecing. De patronen van het placemat en de blokken die ik genaaid heb, kunnen deels gedownload worden. Ik wil zelf graag een Kerstquilt om op te hangen met Kerstmis. Toen ik plaatjes van origami kerstmannen zag, wist ik wat ik wilde. Dus heb ik de patronen gemaakt voor de blokken van mijn origami Kertquilt die boven deze post staat. De patronen zijn beschikbaar zodra ik het quilt genaaid heb. De quilt staat op mijn lijstje voor het nieuwe jaar.

Busy for Christmas

First of all welcome to my new followers. Hope you will find some inspiration on my blog.

Another two days and it will be Christmas! I still have to do a lot of things, so I put my sewing machine away and make the big table free for the children and grandchildren who will be here. I will sandwich  a miniquilt, just for a few minutes of fun micro quilting when there is a little bit spare time.

Overmorgen is kerstavond en dan komen kinderen en kleinkinderen van mijn man eten.  Eerste Kertdag komen mijn dochters met hun dochters en mannen. Dan willen we niet uitgebreid eten, dus bak ik hartige taart e.d.. Maar toch nog veel te doen. De naaimachine gaat van tafel en ik ga aan de slag. Ik sandwich alleen een miniquiltje om als er even tijd is gewoon voor de lol wat te microquilten.

My sewing machine is back after more than three weeks!!! And still are not all my tension problems solved.sapphire!! But it is OK. The man in the store told me that I cannot use all my beautiful yarn with a quilting machine, an expensive Husqvarna 875Q Sapphire!! . That is ridiculous. I sewed for almost a year with all thatyarn without a problem. For my Xmas placemats the machine is OK, but I need to solve the problems before I quilt  the quilt with the dyed clothes.

Mijn naaimachine is terug van de winkel, maar er zijn ng steeds met de spanning. The reparateur vertelde dat het ligt aan mijn garen. Ik mag alleen dure naaimachine garen gebruiken die hij verkoopt, anders werkt de naaimachine niet goed. Onzin, ik heb een jaar zonder problemen gequild zonder problemen met al dat garen. Het lijkt mij onzin dat je op zo'n dure quiltmachine, Husqvarna Sapphire 876Q, niet kan quilten met allerlei garen. Voor mijn kerstplacemats is het OK, maar voor ik verder ga met mijn mooie geverfde lappen, moet het probleem zijn opgelost.

This week I made five more Xmas tree placemats. I made also two placemats with quilted Christmas trees. I used my own embroidery yarn!

Deze week hebb ik nog vijf kerstboomplacemats gemaakt. Ik heb ze met enkele slingers doorgestikt. Verder heb ik met borduurgaren twee andere placemats gemaakt. Ik heb nu bij 15 placemats om weg te geven.!

Sewing for Xmas

When I cycled in Amsterdam I was frightened by these man in white suits.  What was happening there? Why those white suits?????? Two other man in normal clothes were busy there too.  I did not feel safe. What is there in the ground not far from the house of my new born granddaughter?!  On my way back a few hours later, the man in white suits were still there and I saw they did not move!! Then I realised they are statues in a sculpture of the Amsterdam Light Festval. 

Toen ik deze week door Amsterdam fietste schrok ik van deze mannen in witte pakken die samen met twee andere mannen in gewone werkkleding bij een gat in de weg bezig waren. Wat was hier aan de hand? Waarom die witte pakken? Wat zit er in de grond vlak bij het huis van mijn pasgeboren kleindochter??!! Ik voelde me erg onbehaakglijk. Toen ik terug reed uren later, stonden de mannen er nog. In dezelfde houding en onbeweeglijk! Ik realiseerde me toen dat het beelden zijn in een sculptuur van het Amsterdam Licht Festival was!!!! Het was die middag neergezet.

It was a busy week, but I had some time to sew and made another hummingbird placemat. It is so fun to sew the irregular feathers!! The placemats were a gift for the mother of our daughter in law. She invited us for a dinner. She also invited three of het husbands brothers and wifes. We had a delicious dinner and enjoyed the company of this wonderfull family. We are happy that my husbands sun is part of this family.

Ik was druk van de week, maar had wel wat tijd om te naaien en heb nog een kolibri-placemat gemaakt. Het is zo leuk om deze onregelmatige veren te quilten. Het was een kado voor de moeder van onze schoondochter. Ze heeft ons samen met drie broers van haar man en hun vrouwen uitgenodigd.  Het was een heerlijk diner en we hebben genoten van het samenzijn met deze gezellige familie. Fijn dat mijn man's zoon hoort bij zo'n gezellige familie.

Ik heb mijn kesrtstoffen te voorschijn gehaald. Ik heb nog tijd om wat kerstgeschenken te maken.

A bird and another coffee placemat

Two weeks ago I returned my sewing machine to the store. It will take more than three weeks!!!! before I have my machine back. The reason is sad, the old lady of the shop suddenly died. The lady reminded me always of my grandmother, who was busy in her shop untill she suddenly died at the same age too. Both ladies always busy in their shops, no retirement.

Twee weken terug heb ik mijn naaimachine weer terug gebracht naar de winkel. Het duurt wel drie weken voor ik mijn machine terug heb. De reden is verdrietig. De eigenaresse van de winkel is plotseling overleden. Ze deed me altijd denken aan mijn oma in haar manufacturenwinkel. Ook zij everleed op dezelfde leeftijd onverwacht. Beide altijd in hun winkel gewerkt, geen pensioen.

I had a lot of tension problems. The tension of the machine changed during sewing! Very awkward. So I borrowed my old sewing machine from my daughter. I can free motion quilt on this sewing machine, but this machine has tension problems too. Not when I am sewing clothes for my granddaughter, but when I I use my hopping foot.
I finished the 13 inch x 17 inch mini quilt. The bird I quilted two weeks ago and today. I did not know how to quilt the background. Untill I saw this irregular feathers in an zentangle book. It give the suggestion of leaves of a tree. I do not quilt the black space. I love the result. Finally a finsh again. I will sew four mini quilts with different birds and back grounds.

Ik heb veel problemen met de spanning. die veranderde terwijl ik naaide. Heel vervelend. Ik heb daarom maar weer mijn oude naaimachine van mijn dochter geleen. Ook deze machine heeft spannngskuren. Niet toen ik een zwarte-pieten-jasje voor mijn kleindochter naaide, maar wel zodra ik naai met mijn fmq-voet. Maar het is te doen.
Ik heb een  30x 40 cm mini quiltje gemaakt. De vogel had ik twee weken geleden al gemaakt, maar ik kon niet besluiten welke achtergrond ik zoud kiezen. In een zentangle boek, zag ik deze onregelmatige veren die de suggestie van bladeren geven. Gelukkig weer eens wat afgemaakt. Ik wil vier van deze mini quiltjes maken met verschillende vogels en achtergronden.

I bought several books about fabric deying and studied a lot. I have bought the materials and eat a lot of yoghurt so I have enough beakers to dey in. Within two weeks I need to finsih an art quilt. I meet a group of people every thursday and we all have to present an art piece within two weeks. I am the only quilter and I decided it need to be a quilt with fabric 'painted by the artist'! To nght I will experiment with fabric painting.

Wat quilten betreft heb ik verder veel gelezen over het verven van textiel. Ik heb de afgelopen weken een paar goede boeken gekocht en heb de materialen in huis. Ik heb veel yoghurt gegeten om voldoende plastic bekers te hebben. Voor 18 december wil ik een quilt afgemaakt hebben. Elke donderdag ontmoet ik een groep met mensen en 18 december willen we allemaal een kuntstwerk af hebben. Ik zal de enige quilter zijn. Ik ga vanavond al experimenteren met het verven van lappen voor mijn quilt.

Another mini quilt I quilted before my machine stopped quilting is this  coffee placemat. I collected a lot of sayings with coffee.Some very funny. I do not know why I choose these not funny words for the first in a row I want to finish! I used my coffie-filler pattern for the quilting.

Een ander mini quilt, dat ik gemaakt hebt voor mijn machine het begaf, is dezekoffie-placemat. Ik heb een flink aantla gezegdes met koffie gespaard en sommige zijn echt leuk. Waarom ik deze saaie woorden dan op d eerste in een serie placemats heb gemaakt, weet ik zelf niet. Voor het quilten heb ik mijn koffie-meander patroon gebruikt.

FMQ coffeebeans/koffiebonen free pattern

I love coffee, micro free motion quilting and I love to make miniquilts/placemats to give to friends. I collected a lot of pins with funny paintings and sayings about coffee. I combine all these to sew 'coffee' placemats. For these placemats I designed a coffebeans filler and coffeebean loop.

Pattern placemat (finshed size: 45 cm/32 cm)        Patroon placemat (45 cm x 32 cm)

Fabric: 4x 18x12,5 inch  (48cm/35 cm)
Batting:  18 inch/12,5 inch (48 cm/35 cm)
Binding:  75 inch x 2.25 inch (1,70 cm x 4,5 cm)


1. Sandwich the placemats
2. Draw with chalk the pattern on top fabric.
    If nescesary copy and paste the patterns in a document, enlarge it and print it.
3. Quilt coffeebeansfiller in the letters, coffeecup and 'smell'.
4. Guilt the coffeebean loop around the letters and coffeecup.
5. Square the sandwich 18 inch/12,5 inch (48 cm / 35 cm)
6. Finish the placemat with the binding.

Coffeebeans after my birthday

Welcome to the new followers! Hope you enjoy the visits to my blog.
Our bathroom and toilet are finally ready. We are very happy with the result. It is so relaxed, no workers and nu dust in the house, No questions anymore abut where to place the mirrors, sockets, sinks and accessoiries. Just making tea and coffee for the two of us. I need to clean the questroom, where everything was stored during the renovation. When that is finished, our granddaughter can stay with us a few days. Love to go with her to the swimming pool and the Zoo.

De badkamer is eindelijk klaar. We zijn erg blij met het resultaat, Heerlijk weer op ons zelf en niet elke keer beslissingen nemen over de plaats van stopcontacten,spiegels en andere accessoires. Niet de hele dag koffie en thee zetten. Alleen nog de logeerkamer schoonmaken die gebruikt is als opslagplaats gedurende verbouwing. Dan kan ook onze kleindochter komen logeren. Heerlijk we naar het zwembad en Artis.

This week friends from England will stay a few days in Amsterdam. They want us to bring them to Volendam and Marken. Touristic places not far from Amsterdam we prefer not to visit ourselves. But we love to go there with our friends. Between Amsterdam and Volendam the landscape is very special. Because of all the ditches and small lakes it is called Waterland. We will show that to them too and we will drink coffee in a tiny, tiny village, Holysloot (Holy ditch).  In an old,little school is a restaurant with view over Waterland and were you can see Amsterdam far away. Here you find a link to a post about a walk through Waterland with beautiful pictures.

Deze week komen er vrienden uit Engeland een paar dagen naar Amsterdam. Ze willen graag met ons naar Volendam en Marken. Daaar zouden we zelf nooit naar toe gaan. Maar behalve Volendam en Marken laten we ze ook het mooie waterland tussen Amsterdam en Volemdam zien. We gaan koffie drinken in een oud schoolgebouwtje ij Holysloot met uitzicht over Waterland en Amsterdam in de verte. Hier een link naar het veslag van een wandeling door Waterland met mooie foto's van het landschap.

Saturday, on my birthday, I went to the dealer to collect my Husqvarna Sapphire. I bought a new hopping foot with a small open toe,but had to wait untill sunday for a testdrive on my machine. I had a lovely birthday with family and some friends. Everybody need to admire the bathroom.  I got a lot of beautiful presents, but the ones I am the most happy with are the presents from my daughter and  daughter in law. I got labels to sew on my presents for friends from my daughter. The text on the labels is: Made by Maartje. Made with 100% love   My daughter in law is so busy with her business and her two and five year old children, but she took the time to went to a shop at the other end of the city to buy pressure feet for me. 

Zaterdag op mijn verjaardag heb ik snel mijn machine opgehaald van de dealer. Ik heb een  nieuw verend voetje gekocht met een kleine open teen, maar moest tot zondag wachten om de machine uit te proberen. Ik had een heerlijke verjaardag met kleinkinderen, kinderen en vrienden. Iedereen moest natuurlijk de badkamer bewonderen! Ik heb mooie cadeaus gehad maar het meest blij was ik met de cadeaus van mijn dochter en schoondochter. Mijn dochter heeft labels voor me gekocht om op mijn cadeaus voor vrienden te naaien: Made by Maartje, gemaakt met 100% liefde. Mijn schoondochter heeft ondanks haar drukke bedrijf en de zorg voor twee kinderen van twee en vijf de moeite genomen om helemaal naar de andere kant van de stad te rijden om voetjes voor me te kopen.

Why are Husqvarna accesoiries so expensive? When I buy a new machine it will be a Janome or Yuki, with far less expensive accessoires. I had a test drive on my machine with two coffe mini-quilts. I like the sound of a hopping foot while I am sewing.

I quilted coffeebeans with multicolored brown and golden Brildor thread en black thread to sew little swirls and coffeebeans around the pattern. I found in my stash beautiful brown/golden fabric to bind them. The colors of thread and fabric matche better than the picture shows. Of course the mini quilts have my birthday present labels! I am glad to have more time to sew next week. 

Waarom zijn Husqvarna accessoires zo duur? Als ik een nieuwe machine koop, koop ik een Janome of Yuki met goedkopere accessoires.

Ik heb een testritje op mijn machine gemaakt met twee koffie miniquiltjes. Ik heb bruin/goud  Brildor garen gebruikt voor de koffiebonen. Om de bonen heb ik met zwart garen lussen en koffiebonen gequild. Ik vond prachtig bruin-gouden stof in mijn voorraad om af te biezen. De kleuren passeb beter bij elkaar dan de foto laat zien. Natuurlijk zitten de etiketten van mijn dochter op de achterkant.
Ik ben blij dat ik van de week meer tijd heb om te naaien.

A bathroom again but no coffeebeans!

After three weeks of dust we have a toilet again! We hope that wednesday everything is finished. Just before my birthday. We need still to to buy some accesories and we wait for shelfs in a alcove, but we can take a shower at home again. Hurray!!!! We had a lot of luck with the craftsman, They were all very skilled, helpfull.and friendly.

Na drie weken hebben we een badkamer en toilet! We moeten nog wat accesoires kopen en wachten nog een paar weken op planken voor in een nis en onder de wasbakken. Maar we kunnen weer thuis douchen. Hoera!!!! We hebben zo'n geluk gehad met de vaklui. Ze waren goed in hun werk, behulpzaam en vriendelijk.

I gave my daughter the VW-van play quilt. My daughter and grandson keep the gender of the baby a sercret. But when you order a VW-van wall quilt and a VW van play quilt, I cannot help thinking my next grandchild will be a boy too!!! My daughter dislikes quilting on a quilttop. So I did stitching in the ditch around parts of the van and the zebra crossing, but the white surfaces were too big to leave it without quilting. Thats why I stitched some traffic signs in stead of quilting.

This week I will make another VW van play quilt for a friend who will be the proud father of a sun soon. Than I will quilt the quilt with meandering and small traffic signs.

I heb mijn dochter de VW-van play quilt gegeven. Zij en haar man willen niet zeggen of hun kind een jongen of meisje wordt. Maar als je een VW-bus-wandkleed en VW-bus-boxkleed vraagt, dan denk ik dat we er nog een kleinzoon bijkrijgen. Mijn dochter wil niet dat een quilt gequilt wordt!!! Daarom heb ik langs de apllicaties van de bussen en zabrapad gestikt. De witte vlakken zijn te groot om niet te quilt, dus heb ik er verkeersborden in gestikt.
 Ik ga van de week nog een VW-bus boxkleed maken voor een goede vriend die ook snel een zoon krijgt. Dan ga ik wel quilten. Meanderen met kleine verkeersborden.

Waiting for the baby

 I had tried another sampler with fmq just for fun. I will make four coffee placemats with fmq. I have been busy for hours to sew some coffeebeans and had major tension issues. I had to bring my sewing machine back to the shop. Problem is, they will fix it in more than two weeks!!!!! I must borrow my old sewing machine from my daughter. Two weeks without my machine is impossible.

 Ik heb nog geprobeerd een proeflap te maken, gewoon voor de lol. Ik wilde zo vier koffie-placemats maken. Ik ben uren bezig geweest om wat koffiebonen te naaien, maar het lukte niet met mijn machine. Ik heb van alles geprobeerd, maar het lukte niet om gewoon te stikken. Als ik de machine terugbreng naar de winkel duurt het meer dan twee weken voor ik de machine terugkrijg!!!! Dan mijn mijn oude machine van mijn dochter even terugvragen. Twee weken zonder naaimachine kan niet!!

But the back shows major tension isseus! It costs me hours and all for nothing. But I did not like the design after all on this black cotton.

It is better not to sew for a few days. I had to start  cleaning the house with all the dust of the renovation. At first I tried to clean up every day, but that was depressing. I think one day 'making me angry' (a Dutch expression) will be enough to finish the job: a clean, tidy home with no dust on the shells! Than I had to prepare for my birthday. I will have a party for the first time in years.
When my machine is back, I am thinking of a 30 x 30 inch whole cloth with graffitty quilting. Big letters in the middle. That will be fun.

Het is ook beter even niet te naaien. Het huis moet nog worden schoongemaakt en opgeruimd na de verbuwing. In het begin van de verbouwing ruimde ik elke dag op, maar dat was een hopeloze zaak. Ik denk dat als ik me een dag flink kwaad maak, alle rommel opgeruimd is en alles in huis stofvrij, opgeruimd en schoon.
Als mijn machine terug is, wil ik gaan een whole cloth quilten van 70 x 70 cm. Grote graffitti letters in het midden. Daar zal ik veel plezier mee hebben.

The dealer for my Husqvarna Sapphire 875Q sewing  machine. They have now  three shops full with sewing machines.
Every time I visit this store, there is someone buying a sewing mahine!
