Lots of samplers and books

It is almost November and finally autumn arrived. No more eating on our terrace. Today it will be stormy, raining and much colder. I have been baby sitting since February and every time we go for a long walk, but today we had to stay at home for the first time! They live near the coast the place were the storm is most heavy. 

Most trees in the parcaround us house are still green, but that will change soon. So I think we can love the autumn colors soon.

Het wordt nu eind oktober  toch nog herfst. Ik pas sinds februari elke week op mijn kleinzoon en elke week hebben we kunnen wandelen. Maar vandaag stormt en regent het, Zij wonen aan de kust en daar is de storm het sterkst. De meeste bomen hier in het park zijn nog groen, maar ik denk dat we snel van de herfstkleuren kunnen genieten.

The play quilt for my daughter will be finished tonight. It needs some quilting and binding. My dauchter did not want me to quilt it, but I succeeded in convincing her that it is nescesary! Three weeks to go and the baby is there, we hope healthy and well!

Het bokskleed voor mijn dochter is bijna af. Alleen de bies en dan minimaal quilten. Ze wilde liever helemaal niet dat ik het kleed doorstikte, maar ik kon haar nog net aan het verstand peuteren dat het moest. Nog drie weken en dan is de baby er. Hopelijk gezond en wel!.

I binded this week six samplers. As always I am surprised how adding a binding changes the view of a sampler. When I make a sampler with patterns I love the process of sewing, but I see a lot of mistakes and uneven stitches. So when I square the sampler after sewing I often think, that it is not good enough for a placemat gift. But binding the sampler a few weeks later makes the difference. I have six placemats ready to give away.

Als ik een sampler maak, doe ik dat om patronen te oefenen en steeds gelijkmatiger te leren stikken. Als ik de samplers na het stikkern op maat snij zie ik veel fouten en ongelijke steken. De lappen lijken me dan niets om placemats voor vrienden of familie van te maken. Als ik na een paar weken de placemats afbies is dat een wereld van verschil. Ik heb nu weer zes mooie placemats om weg te geven.

Every time the patterns on a finished sampler are very tiny and I want to sew them bigger. I think I need to mark the first patterns before stitching. I hope that all patterns turn out bigger.

Steeds als ik een lap heb gestikt dan zijn de patronen kleiner dan ik wilde. Ik denk dat ik bij een volgende sampler de eerste patronen markeer. Dat moet helpen alles groter te houden.


I bought this week two books to read more about deying fabrics and quilts. They were new and I had to pay only 8 euro for both books. For the review of the first book of C. June Barnes I looked in amazon.com and I learned that the book is in English far more expensive then 4 euro! That is for the first time. Books, fabrics and everything you need for quilting is more expensive in Europe. After the renovating of the bathroom, after a week it is finished. But I had to order Coloring by accident at Amazon.com and with the costs of shipping it is more expensive. You win some, you loose some!

 I heb van de week twee nieuwe boeken over het verven van quilts en lappen gekocht bij bol.com. Voor de review van de boeken heb ik gekeken op amazon.com en ontdekte dat het boek over kleur en textuur van C. June Barnes daar vele malen duurder is als de vier euro die ik ervoor betaald heb. Dat is de eerste keer dat ik voor het quilten hier iets goedkoper kan krijgen dan in Amerika! Ik moest de verfbijbel 'Coloring by accident', kopen bij Amazon.com. Dat was dus weer flink duurder. Het kan niet altijd feest zijn.

Renovating the bathroom/De badkamer verbouwen

Past week two very hard working experts had been busy renovating the bathroom. We hired a Dutch company, but the men working at our bathroom are Victor from Russia and Pavel from Latvia.Very skilled and very friendly. They love my coffee and home made cake and cookies. I can laugh with Victor, who speaks Dutch and English as well, and Pavel is always looking worried about my wishes and explains what is possible and what is not possible. Almost everything is possible.  They clean up every evening and return every morning very early. But there is a lot of dust in the house. So I have to dust every day. Buying and deciding all the sanitair costs a lot of time. There is always unexpted decissions to make. I had to buy everything on the Internet!!! But I am happy to go to the showroom in Amsterdam, where skilled men advise me before ordering.

De hele week zijn we bezig geweest met de renovatie van onze badkamer. Hoewel we met een Nederlands bedrijf werken, doen Victor uit Rusland en Pavel uit Letland het werk. Ze werken goed, zorgvuldig en netjes. Elke avond ruimen ze op en 's ochtends vroeg bellen ze weer aan. Met Victor, die Nederlands en Engels spreekt,  kan ik grappen maken en Pavel heeft altijd een zorgelijke trek bij elk voorstel of wens. Hij legt altijd uit wat wel of niet kan en lijkt me heel redelijk. Maar uiteindelijk komt hij met voorstellen, zodat bijna alles kan wat we willen. Maar wat gaat er een tijd zitten in iedere keer het huis stofvrij maken. Ook het kopen van het sanitair kost tijd. Er zijn zoveel dingen waaraan je moet denken. Ook dit koop je tegenwoordig op Internet, maar gelukkig is er een showroom in Amsterdam, waar ik uitstekend geholpen wordt voor ik de spullen bestel.

The shower! In twoo weeks I can take a shower.

Together with my granddaughter I discovered swimming again, but only in warm water! I always thought there was only cold water in the swimming pools! I hate jumping in cold water! But I love the warm water pool and I intend to swim every week a few times. The swimming pool is almost next door! It is a very old, but next to it, they are building a new beautiful swimming pool. On the walls in the old swimming pool are funny paintings. It make me think of new quilt projects with funny elephants and caterpillars.

Met mijn kleindochter heb ik het zwemmen weer ontdekt, maar nu in warm water! Ik dacht dat al het water in zwembaden nog altijd koud was! Ik ga nu in de strijd tegen de kilootjes elke week een paar keer zwemmen, heerlijk! Het zwembad vlakbij ons is oud, maar ernaast verschijnt al een prachtig nieuw bad. In het oude bad staan op de muur allemaal grappige tekeningen van bijvoorbeeld een olifant of duizendpoot. Ik moet daarbij steeds aan nieuwe quiltprojecten denken.


Dieting is difficult with friends from Maroc, Iran and Irak. My husband helps some students from university better understanding , better speaking and writing  Dutch. Sometimes they have diner with us and sometimes they cook for us. This weekend we went to Simo from Maroc. He and his Dutch girlfriend cooked delicious tajine withquince fruit for us and they made a delicious cheese cake with orange blossom water.
Hodda from Iran and het Iraqui husband eated with us. We cooked a Indonesian rice table for them. There are a lot of Durch peaple with roos in Indonesia, that's why Indonisian food is popular in The Netherlands. And of course it is delicious.
I swimmed three times last week and keep me diet, but I lost  no weight! Have to try it again this week.

De strijd tegen de kilo's is moeilijk met vrienden die uit Marokko, Irak en Iran komen. Mijn man helpt oudere, integrerende studenten met Nederlands voor hun studie en scripties. Zij komen af en toe bij ons eten of wij eten bij hen. Dit weekend hebben we bij Simo uit Marokko en zijn Neerlandse vriending heerlijk Marokaans gegeten. Hodda en Saïd uit Iran en Iraq hebben bij ons Indonesisch gegeten. Het hele effect van een week lijnen en zwemmen is weg!

I had to little  time to sew this week, but I have made two mini quilts of the bonus-fabric I dyed at the workshop of Will Opio Oguto. The inspiration of the design is an art quilt made by Will too. Follow the link and you will see this beautiful quilt/ I had just enough fabric for the tops and binding. The back is a green shade cotton, also dyed at the workshop. I used red and green thread for the quilting.
My husband said that the quilts are my first ''art guilts'. How sweet he can be!!!!

Ik had weinig tijd om te naaien deze week, maar ik heb toch deze twee miniquilts gemaakt van mijn geverfde lap op de workshop van  Will Opio Oguto. De inspiratie van het design van the miniquilts zijn ook van Wil. Volg de link en je ziet haar prachtige vogelquilt. De lap was net groot genoeg voor de top en de bies, de achterkant is lap in een lichtgroene kleur, ook van de workshop. Ik heb rood en groen garen gebruikt voor het quilten.
Mijn man merkte op dat hij deze twee quiltjes meer 'kunstwerken' vond. Wat kan hij soms lief zijn!!!!

Next week I like to sew a little bit more. I make a play quilt with four small VW-busses My daughter wants them in the same color as het wall quilt VW-bus. I have really soft woolen batting. I bought it in this excellent quiltshop: Mariana's quiltcorner.

Volgende week ga ik een boxkleed maken voor de baby van mijn dochter die over een maand geboren wordt. Vier VW-bussen erop in dezelfde kleur als haar VW-bus-wandkleed. Ik heb nog heerlijk wollen tussenvulling, gekocht in Marina's quiltcorner in Bilthoven.

A new project with VW-busses: a playmat for my pregnant daughter.

I want to make a 38 x 24 inch sampler with graffitty patterns. Just to practice new patterns.  I will use beautiful multicolored Superior thread. I need to draw a lot in my sketchbook too. Some patterns are easy to sew, but for some I need to 'train' my eye hand coordination. Of course I will try some wonderful patterns of my color book for adults.

Ik ga een 60 x 80 cm proeflap quilten met graffitty patronen. Daarvoor moet ik veel tekenen, omdat niet alle patronen even makkelijk voor me zijn. Voor veel patronen moet ik mijn oog-hand-coordinatie trainen. Natuurlijk haal ik veel patroontjes uit mijn kleurboek voor volwassenen.

All these fat quarters for 1 euro each!

Some multicolor metal thraed!

I prefer shopping for my quilting and sewing in shops and markets. There was a excellent quiltshp with so friendly owners 10 minutes biking away from my house, but it closed a year ago. In Amsterdam are two quilt shops left, where I can buy almost anythin. The Birdblocks  and of course I can go to the famous Albert Cuyo streetmarket. But my whole live I shopped for haberdashery in a small very old shop in Hilversum, a place in the neighbourhood where a lived almost my whole live. When I visit my daughter who lives in Hilversum, we almost go every time to that shop in a very old buuilding. We have shopped for the last time there. It is closed too. For the last time, my daughter found some beautiful soft color fat quaters for me and I bought some thread for graffitty.

I had to shop on the Internet more and more. I understand that more and more shops close, but shopping is less and less fun.

Ik koop mijn naaispulletjes graag in winkels of op de Albert Cuyp. Helaas gaat het fourniturenwinkeltje in het centrum van Hilversum dicht. Het was in rommelwinkeltje in een kaal pand, maar oh zo gezellig en ze hadden van alles. Zo jammer ik kocht er al spulletjes toen de kinderen klein waren. Dat heerlijke quiltwinkeltje de Bricoleur in Tuindorp Oostzaan is ook al dicht! Het is handig om van alles op Internet te kopen, maar het winkelen wordt niet gezelliger.
Mijn dochter heeft nog wat leuke fat quarters voor me uitgezocht en samen met het metallic garen was dat mijn laatste aankoop.

My eldest daughter is a teacher at a school for mentaly disabled children. She is very busy with less spare time. So Wednesday on her free day I went with my granddoughter to the swimmingpool, so my daughterr had some time to spent as she likes. I hate swimming but I was the activity my granddaughter want the most. We went to the shop to buy a swimmingsuit and of course it had to be a pink one! We went to a small swimmingpool and we were the only swimmers! I loved to swim again with my granddaughter and she was so sweet and happy in the swimmingpool. A lot of joy for both of us. I have always been a working mom and  was not longing for grandchildren. But now I have grandchildren, I am surprised it is such a joy to play with them! I feeled the baby in the stomach of my youngest daughter and I had already the same feeling.  I can not wait till it is born. Het VW-babywall hanging is finished.

Omdat mijn dochter die op een school met minderbegaafde leerlingen werkt, het ontzettend druk heeft, ben ik woensdagmiddag met mijn kleindochter naar het zwembad geweest. Heeft mijn dochter  een middagje voor zichzelf. Eerst zijn we naar de winkel gegaan om een badpak te kopen. Mijn kleindochter koos natuurlijk een rose badpak voor me uit! Ik heb in 30 jaar niet gezwommen en eerlijk gezegd vond ik tot woensdag zwemmen vreselijk, maar wat hebben we genoten allebei! Het zei me niets oma zijn toen ik nog werkte, ik wilde geen oppasoma worden. Wat zat ik ernaast, ik geniet ervan. Van de week voelde ik de kleine bewegen in de buik van mijn andere dochter. Ik kan niet wachten tot dat kleintje er is!  

I had a class fabric dyeing. The teacher is an talented art quilter: Wil Opio Oguta. You must visit her site to see her beautiful art quilts. She dyes all het fabrics! I have a lot of colored fat quarters: rainbow colors and shades of green. The piece of cotton colored with the left over dye solution is so beautiful! Next weekend I plan to dye myself. I will certainly have more classes, Wil can teach me a lot.

Ik heb een geweldige workshop textielverven gehad van Wil Opio Oguta, die zelf prachtige art quilts maakt en daarvoor al haar textiel verft. Ik heb nu een stapel gekleurde fat quarters.: regenboog kleuren en tinten groen. Het stuk katoen dat geverfd is met de restjes veerfoplossing is het mooiste geworden! Volgende week ga ik zelf verven en ik ga zeker meer cursussen volgen bij Wil. Ze kan me veel leren.

Ik ben er ook nog in geslaagd deze week te quilten. Twee samplers met graffitty en de VW-bus wandquilt is af. Van de week nog hangt deze aan de muur in de babykamer bij mijn dochter.

Just some ironing and than the VW-bus is ready for the wall of another grandchild. My daughter did not want me to quilt it.

This container is standing in front of our home. The renovation of the bathroom and toilet started this week. A lot of dust in the house and I could not find my make up anywhere. Untill I decided to put the laundry in the machine. Hurray, of course on the washing machine!! I have some color on my face again!

Deze container staat voor ons huis. Dat betekent dat de verbouwing van de badkamer en toilet is begonnen. Veel stof in huis en ik kon mijn make up nergens vinden. Toen ik de was in de wasmachine stopte vond ik het terug. Natuurlijk op wasmachine! Ik kan nu weer naar buiten met wat kleur op mijn gezicht.

Port and cheese at a late summer evening

We had a lovely present from a friend: a bottle of  Port and some delicious French and Dutch cheeses. To much for two, so we asked our neighbours to enjoy a cheese and port meal with us. So we sat on our terrace in the late evening sun and eat and talked outside untill eleven oçlock!!! I cannot remember sitting and eating outsite in autumn. I think it will be the last day this summer!  It is so nice to live in a neighbourhood with such nice neightbours. The very same day another neighbour brought us a cake.

We hebben van een vriend een plateau met heerlijke kazen en een fles port gekregen. Teveel voor twee, daarom hebben we de buren gevraagd om de kaas en port samen met ons soldaat te maken. Dat hebben we buiten op het terras gedaan en we hebben tot elf uur buiten gezeten. Het is waarschijnlijke de laatste avond dat dat kon dit jaar. Het is heerlijk om in een buurt met aardige buren te wonen. We kregen van een andere buurvrouw trouwens een cake dit weekend!

We intend to go on a diet after this meal!

We have been baby sitting all our four grandchildren this week. Tuesday en Wednesday we had to take care of grandchildren too. Lucky we!! But it is again few time for sewing.

We hebben op alle kleinkinderen gepast deze week. Komende dinsdag en woensdag passen we ook weer op. We vinden dat een buitenkansje, maar het betekent weinig tijd om te naaien.

14 inch x 10 inch samplers.

I finished two samplers with fmq graffity/doodling. One with half fmq patterns and another one with almost none. No feathers, paisleys and that kind of patterns. I used a multi color brildor embroidery yarn on black cotton. When I sew the samplers I see a lot of mistakes, but after finishing and when not looking to stitches but to the whole sampler I love the colors and all different patterns. I haven't not decide if the binding black or sam other fabric. Have to think about that.

Ik heb twee proeflappen met fmq graffity/doodling genaaid. Op de ene nog veel fmqpatronen, maar op de andere niet. Geen veren of paisleys. Ik heb multikluren borduurgaren van brildor gebruikt. Als ik de patronen naai, dan zie ik al die foutjes die ik maak, maar nu het af is, valt het resultaat mee. Alleen moet ik nog beslissen hoe ik de lappen afbies, Zwart of een ander patroon. Moet ik nog even over nadenken.

I find this patterns very nice for fmq, So I think that my two sandwiched samplers wil be filled with this patterns. So that is fun for in the evening. But I love this kind of more graffitty style fmq of the next picture too. It need a bigger sampler than a placemat and I need more marking. But more freedom and fantasy!. After the workshop 'cotton dyeing' next saturday, I will have a nice piece of colored cotton for this fun!

Ik vind deze patronen zo leuk, dat ik mijn twee andere samplers die klaar liggen voor fmq er voor ga gebruiken. Maar onderstaand, meer graffity-achtig patroon is ook leuk om te doen. Ik heb er een grotere proeflap voor nodig, dan de placemats die ik klaar heb liggen. Zaterdag ga ik naar de katoenverven workshop en een van de lappen die ik daar ga verven, ga ik voor dit patroon gebruiken.

Baby wall quilt

De VW is appliqued on the top of the babt wall quilt for my daughter. Only de VW-logo had to be done. She had to decide which fabric I will use for the binding. Hope she likes it!

De bus is ook vastgezet op de top van de baby quilt voor mijn dochter. Het VW-logo nog en dan afbiezen. Zij mag kiezen welke van de stofjes ik zal gebruiken. Hoop dat me dochter het mooi vindt!








The Aiming for Accuracy Quilt along quilt is still waiting to be finished. Too busy.
De aiming-for-accuracy quilt moet nog even wachten. Te druk!

Time for graffitty and dyeing cotton

I did not have much time for sewing this week. I couldn't imaging how busy live for a pensioner is: parties, dinners, babysitting, keeping my house clean, helping my daughter in law who is ill. A lot of things keep me away from my sewing machine.



Nooit gedacht dat het leven van een pensionada zo druk kan zijn. Afscheidsfeestje van een collega die ook met pensioen gaat, etentjes, oppassen, mijn eigen huishouden doen en mijn schoondochter helpen die ziek is. Ik kom zo te weinig achter mijn naaimachine.



Other reasons for less time behind the sewing machine are graffitty and fabric dyeing. I go to a workshop fabric dyeing en had a lot to do to buy things and preparing fabrics. As a chemist I am very interested in all the information on the Internet, but I see advices that look very strange to me. For instance why soda-ash? But there is a lot real good information on the Internet. I look forward to go to the workshop and busy collecting bottles and all kind of things.



Andere redenen om minder te naaien zijn graffitty en katoen verven. Ik ga een cursus volgen om mijn eigen lapjes te verven. Ik wil dat gebruiken voor whole clothes quilts. Ik moet een hele stapel spullen en lapjes meenemen naar de cursus. Ik verzamel allemaal potjes flessen. Als chemicus ben ik benieuwd naar de processen achter het verven en wat zin en onzin is van de adviezen die gegeven worden op internet. Hoe zo geen kristalsoda gebruiken en wel soda-ash? Als chemicus snap ik niet waarom. Gelukkig is er veel goede informatie over verven op internet. Ik heb erg veel zin in de cursus!!

My cotton is ready to dye!

Every week I go to an excellent bookshop. I bought coloring books for adults for my husbands sister, who has alzheimer en is coloring whole day. Last week I found coloring books for adults with a lot of patterns for graffitty quilting. I am so busy in my head with graffitty quilting and I draw patterns and lines as soon I sit down. The patterns in the book look like fmq patterns but they are not made with one continuous line. I love to find out what is possible for free motion quilting. One interesting item for instance is the difference in thickness of the lines in the patterns. The difference with zentangle drawings is that most zentangles repeat very small patterns between lines. I sandwiched four small samplers to quilt new patterns and drawings in the evening when my husband is watching baseball or a movie.

Coloring book for adults

In Castricum is een geweldige boekwinkel waar ik elke week kom. Ik kende kleurboeken voor volwassenen, omdat ik die voor de zus van mijn man koop die dement is en de hele dag kleurt. Vorige week vond ik kleurboeken met geweldige patronen voor graffiti. Met quilten uit de vrije hand teken je met een continue lijn en dat heeft beperkingen, die je niet hebt met tekenen op papier. Dus niet alle patronen uit het boek zijn ook geschikt om te quilten. De lijnen zijn niet overal even dik bijvoorbeeld. Het verschil met zentangles is, dat het niet alleen herhalen van kleine patronen tussen lijnen is. Maar veel mensen tekenen zentangels naar eigen inzicht. Zodra ik even ga zitten pak ik daarom pen en papier en het boek en ga patronen uit proberen om ze geschikt te maken voor graffiti quilten. I love this multicolor thread.

But despite everything and all the drawing I managed to sew this week. I finished the first graffitty placemats with a mustard yellow binding.

Ondanks alles en het vele tekenen heb ik toch wat genaaid van de week. Mijn eerste graffiti placemats afgebiesd met mosterdgele linnen.

I worked on both WIPs. I do not like to work on my aiming-for accuracy-quilt-along-quilt, but I will prevent the piece to become an UFO. The second WIP is the VW-bus baby wall hanging for my youngest daughter. The green fabrics are her choice and I do not like green. But I like the result and the Family Tree fabric van Moda is adorable. I hope my daughter likes the result too! (She and her husband told no one if the baby is a boy of a girl. But with a VW-bus on the wall, it must be a boy in November!)

Ik heb twee WIP's. De aiming-for accuracy-quilt-along-quilt is gesandwichd en langs de witte lapjes doorgestikt. Van de week moet deze verder gequild worden en afgebiesd. Ik zal blij zijn als de quilt af is en op de logeerbank ligt. De VW-bus baby-wandquilt for mijn jongste dochter schiet lekker op. De groene lapjes zijn haar keus, ik hou niet van groen, maar het wordt mooi. Het Family Tree stofje van Moda is zo leuk dat ik met veel plezier aan de bus werk. Nu maar hopen dat de aanstaande moeder blij is met het resultaat. Mijn dochter en schoonzoon willen niet vertellen of de baby een jongen of meisje wordt, met met zo'n VW-bus aan de muur, moet het wel een jongen worden toch?).

Love from Amsterdam, keep quilting

Lovely home, babysitting and graffity.

We moved ten months ago to this house, 10 minutes away by bus or by bike from the centre of Amsterdam. It is a very quiet place with friendly neighbours. I preferred living in the center of Amsterdam, but that was not an option for my husband. And he was right. We enjoyed our big teracce with all the sun of this year summer. And I love to go downtown and enjoy busy Amsterdam whenever I want, but enjoy as well the birds and trees at home.

We zijn nu tien maanden geleden verhuisd naar dit huis tien minuten per fiets of bus van het centrum van Amsterdam. Heerlijk  rustig en vriendelijke buren. Ik wilde liever in het centrum van Amsterdam wonen, maar dat leek mijn man niets. En hij had gelijk. We genieten op ons heerlijke terras deze zonovergoten zomer. Ik vind het heerlijk om de drukte van Amsterdam in te gaan, maar kan genieten van alle vogels en bomen hier.



We love to live in one of these houses with a big, big terrace next to this parc with lots and lots of birds. When I walk through this parc with my granddaughters there are lots of things to discover.

We wonen hier heerlijk aan de rand van dit park. Als we hier met onze kleindochters lopen is er altijd veel te ontdekken.



Every Thursday we take care of our youngest grandson and this weekend he is here! We are so proud to help his parents and of course he is a very special boy! A little complication, we need to take care of our other grandson too! So granddad will stay at home and I go Saturday afternoon to Utrecht to look after this also very special boy and play with the eldest granddaughter.

Iedere donderdag passen we op onze jongste kleinzoon en dit weekend is hij bij ons. We zijn blij dat wij zijn ouders kunnen helpen en natuurlijk is het een heerlijk ventje!!! Een kleine complicatie, we moeten ook op onze andere kleinzoon passen. Dus opa blijft thuis en ik ga zaterdagmiddag en -avond naar Utrecht, om op dat ook al heerlijke ventje te passen.

Grandson on Leah Day quilt

I made this week another chicken placemat en intend to make another 12 of them. A nice present to give to the children when it is Easter! I am early this year.
Ik heb deze week nog een kippenplacemat gemaakt. Er komen er nog 12 bij. Een goed kado om aan de kindeeren te geven met Pasen! Ik ben er vroeg bij dit jaar!

The VW-bus baby quilt/wallhanging is on his way. My daughter wants a white background. But I think the fabric she choosed voor the biggest part of the car is too light for a white background. We had to buy another fabric, when she is back on Friday. She does not want the wall hanging quilted, so I spray basted the top before stitching the parts on the top.

De VW-bus baby quilt/wandkleed begint te lijken. Mijn dochter wilde een witte achtergrond. Ik ben bang dat haar stof voor de bovenkant van de bus dan te licht is. Dat moet ze zelf maar even aangeven als ze volgende week terug is van vakantie. Ze kan dan eventueel andere stof kopen. Ik mag de quilt niet quilten, dus lijm ik de lagen aan elkaar voor ik de busdelen op de quilt stik.


I found this week the blog of Karlee Porter and her beautiful graffitty quilting. I was amazed. The designs of her quilts are so beautiful. She has such beautiful patterns and combination of patterns. So I draw a lot of her patterns in my sketchbook, sandwiched a black cotton ( 90 cm x 70 cm) and put my new hopping foot on my machine. I took all the blue and green threads out of the box with Isacords and enjoyed more than 12 hours of quilting fun. It is still practice.  I will cut this piece in placemats. I have some mustard green fabric for the binding. In October I plan to dye some fabrics and quilt them for real with my own design. I think about an owl in a tree by night.

Ik heb van de week het blog gevonden van Karlee Porter en haar prachtige graffity-quilting. Ik ben verbaasd over haar patronen, combinaties en design. Dus ik teken haar patronen in mijn schetsboek als ik maar even tijd heb. Ik heb mijn nieuwe quiltvoet op de machine gezet, al mijn groene en blauwe garens uit de doos gehaald en een quiltje van 90x70 cm vol gequilt met 'graffity'. Meer dan 12 uur plezier. Het is een oefenstuk, dus ik snij er placemats van. Ik heb mosterdgroene stof om ze af te biezen. Ik ga in oktober katoen verven en dan echt mooie graffity quilts maken met een echt design. Ik denk aan uilen in het bos.
