Bath time

This week we are in Utrecht to take care for two grandchildren, Sascha, our eldest and Huub her brother. I did not take my sewing machine with me, because there is no time and space to sew, but I took my computer with me. I can play with EQ7 in the evening. The last rubber ducks block,s I sewed before we left,  and the picture of little kate inspired me.

Deze week heb ik weinig kunnen naaien omdat we op onze kleinkinderen passen: Sascha, onze oudste kleinkind en haar broer Huub. Ik heb mijn  naaimachine niet meegenomen, want er is geen tijd en plaats om te naaien. Maar ik heb mijn notebook bij me en 's avonds genoeg tijd om te spelen met EQ7. De laatste eendjes die ik heb genaaid en deze foto van Kate hebben me geïnspireerd.

I downloaded pictures for toys in bath and designed some blocks. For our next grandchild what we hope to welcome around new years eve I will sew this baby quilt.
Ik heb wat afbeelding van speelgoed voor in bad gedownload en patronen voor bloken hiervan ontworpen. Voor ons volgende kleinkind dat rond oud en nieuw verwachten ga ik dit boxkleed maken.

The duck pattern can be downloaded already, but the other block patterns are available next week when I have tested the patterns with blue fabric. In Utrecht, where we are now, is a fabric market and I look forward to go there tomorrow to buy yellow and bleu fabric..

Het patroon voor de eend kan al van mijn blog gedownload worden, maar de andere patronen moeten nog getest worden. Ik ga morgen naar de lappenmarkt in Utrecht en hoop mooie blauwe en gele katoen te kunnen scoren.

Moka pot and rubber ducks

This week we are in a very beautiful part of The Netherlands,  to visit a good friend. It is a nice part to cycle and walk. We had lovely, sunny weather. Almost all the leaves are still green, so it is hard to believe it is autumn!

Van de week zijn we een paar dagen in Friesland, vlakbij Drente. We bezoeken een vriendin. Wat is het hier prachtig. We boffen met het mooie, zonnige weer en bijna alle bomen zijn nog groen! Het is zo moeilijk te geloven dat het al herfst is.

We saw a lot of  mushrooms

I made last weekend a pattern of a moka pot and tested the pattern for a 6 inch block. Early in the morning, when my husband is sleeping I made the pattern ready to download.

The brown moka pot a 8 inch pattern. Orange and brown are the September and October colors of Soscrappy   I do not like this colors, but since I am paperpiecing I like to use more colors. I even love the brown pot.

Ik heb in het weekend een patroontje van een  espressomaker gemaakt en een 6 inch blok genaaid met het patroon. 's Ochtends vroeg terwijl mijn man sliep, heb ik het patroon op pdf gezet, zodat het geedownload kan worden.

De bruine pot is een 8 inch block en beter gelukt.  Oranje en bruin zijn de september- en oktoberkleuren van Soscrappy. Ik hou niet van deze kleuren, maar sinds ik blokken maak met paperpiecing, maak ik van meer kleuren gebruik en ik vind de bruine koffiepot zefs mooi.

Another pattern I made this week is this rubber duck. You can download a zipfile with the patterns of 4, 6, 8 and ten inch block. With the patterns are templates to cut the fabrics  You can use the paper piece patterns or piece the blocks without paper.

Eenander patroon dat ik van de week gemaakt heb, is dit patroon van een badeend. U kan een zipbestand downloaden met de patronen voor 4,6,8 en 10 inch blokken. Bij de patronen zijn mallen om de stof te knippen. De blokken kunnen daarmee met papier of gewoon genaaid kunnen worden.

I will use this little block for a little present for the mother of a new born baby. I will sure use this block for a baby quilt in the near future. It is easy to sew and it is a nice block to play with colors and fabrics.

Ik gebruik dit kleine blokje voor een kadootje voor de moeder van een pas geboren baby. Maar het blok is eenvoudig te naaien en gele eendjes kunnen afgewisseld worden met andere kleuren. Ik zal zeker een leuke baby quilt maken met deze blokken of placemats voor mijn klleinste kleinkinderen.

Kittens

Two months ago I sewed this cat for my granddaughter. She loves the color purple. It was a free 4 inch pattern, but I enlarged the pattern to make a cushion and linked in my blogpost to the designer and gave her credits. The designer was not amused and let me know, that I was not allowed to enlarge her pattern. That was for me the reason to learn how to design my own patterns.

Twee maanden geleden naaide ik dit blok met het silhouet van een kat voor een kussentje voor mijn kleindochter. Paars is haar lievelingskleur. Het patroon vergrootte ik en op mijn blog linkte ik naar de designer. De ontwerpster was niet blij en liet mij weten dat ik haar patroon niet mag vergroten. Dat was voor mij de reden me te verdiepen in het maken van mijn eigen patronen.

Patroon: QuiltArtDesigns

When I sew this purple cat silhouette (QuiltArtDesigns)  I thought there was something funny with this pattern. For me it is the body of a kitten with a tail of a cat. I wanted to sew more kittens and downloaded pictures of kittens and practiced with designing. Untill now I tested two patterns and the patterns are ready to download. I did not decide weather I give the kittens eyes.

Nadat ik het blok van het kattensilhouet had genaaid(QuiltArtDesigns), vond ik dat er iets niet klopte met het patroon. Het lijf is van een kitten en de staart van een kat. Ik heb afbeeldingen van kittens bestudeerd en vier kittenblokken ontworpen. Ik heb twee patronen getest en die kunnen gedownload worden. Zelf heb ik nog niet besloten of ik de blokken ogen geef.

Orange cotton and an UFO

Like every thursday morning I went down town tomy daughter for a cup of coffee and to take little Kate with me. Instead of going home we walked together in the centre of Amsterdam. I like to breakfast in the city and this time breakfast was at one of the best confectioners in the city: 'Pattisier Kuyt'

Zoals altijd, ben ik vanmorgen de stad ingegaan om mijn kleindochter te halen. In plaats van naar huis te gaan, hebben we samen gewandeld en ontbeten bij Kuyt, een van de beste banketbakkers in Amsterdam.

The tearoom is not far away of the famous Amsterdam street market 'Albert Cuyp' with three shops selling cottons. The September color at Soscrappy is orange and it is already October. I found this three orange cottons. So five colors to my stash for paper pieced pottery and other small, funny blocks. I will sew some pumpkin blocks for halloween too. De kleur voor October at Soscrappy is brown so I will  look for brown fabrics in my stash and I sure will buy some.

Van Kuyt naar de Albert Cuyp is vijf minuten lopen en ik ben daar langs de lappen winkels geweest om oranje katoen te scoren. De septemberkleur bij Soscrappy is oranje, maar dat is geen courante kleur bij de AlbertCuyp-winkels. Toch heb ik drie lapjes gevonden. Het zijn mooie lapjes voor mijn paper-piecing-diggelwerk-blokken en andere kleine, grappige blokken. Ik zal er zeker pompoenen van naaien voor Halloween. De kleur voor oktober is bruin!!

First orange block

I love to design my own paper piecing patterns and I made a milk pot pattern for my orange cotton. After sewing the first block I improved the pattern and made also a coffeepot pattern by adding a lid to the pattern.

This is my UFO. An 'aiming for accuracy quilt along 2013' quilt. It is quilted already, but it is waiting for binding. I do not like the top and I think that is the reason why.

Another shoe with more patterns

I am busy with a few projects. All with paper pieced blocks. The mad cow family project, my shoe quilt project and mini quilts with chinaware. Zmas is not far either!!
The shoe project was meant voor shoes of the Dutch designer Jan Jansen. I used to wear his shoes long time ago. But looking for pictures of his shoes I found such a beautiful shoes of all kind of master designers. Those shoes must be a part of the quilt too! So I decide that Jan Jansen had to shore his quilt with other designers. The shoe quilt will have stiletto's I wish I could wear!make and test patterns for shoes I wish I could still wear: beautiful stiletto's.
The design of this quilt will be a wall of a modern, expensive shoe store with limited amount of shoes in the shop. I know where to find this stores in Amsterdam!

Ik heb inmiddels een paar projecten onder de hand. Het gekke koeien familie project, mijn schoenen project en de mini's van diggelwerk. Kerstmis komt er ook nog aan!!
Het schoenenproject was oorspronkelijk bedoeld voor schoenen van Jan Jansen. Lang geleden droeg ik zijn schoenen en vond ze prachtig, maar op het Intrnet vond ik veel mooie schoenen van andere ontwerpers die ook genaaid moesten worden, Dus maak ik patroontjes voor schoenen, waarvan ik zou willen dat ik ze nog kon dragen: mooie stiletto's. Alle patroontjes worden eerst getest, want de blokken voor het schoenen project moeten perfect zijn en dat zijn de blokken niet altjd als je ze voor de eerste keer maakt. Het ontwerp voor de quilt wordt de wand van een dure schoenwinkel met weinig schoenen in de winkel.

This two patterns are tested already and the patterns will not be used for my shoe quilt. I found that an important part of design shoes is the soul. I want to have my patterns black souls too. It makes the pattern more difficult but it more interesting. The first shoe I will shoe for my shoe shop will be this 10 inch RedSilverStiletto pattern.  I tested this pattern this week with cotton deyed months ago. It takes a little bit longer to sew with some tiny pieces, than the shoes above, but it is worthwhile. Now just looking for fabric with the right color red and silver for the block I will use in my quilt.

Deze twee patronen heb ik afgelopen weken getest, maar ze komen niet in mijn schoenwinkel. Bij veel designschoenen is de vaak zwarte zool een onderdeel van het design. Het patroon met zo'n zool is moeilijker, maar veel interessanter. De eerste schoen die in mijn schoenwinkel komt is deze 10 inch roo-zilver-stiletto. Het patroon testte ik deze week. Ik heb hem gemaakt van zelf geverfde katoen. Nu nog katoen vinden met de goede kleuren rood en zilver voor mijn schoenenquilt..

You can only download a 10 inch pattern . Some tiny pieces make it impossible to resize the pattern to a smaller size.

U kunt het 10 inch patroon voor eigen niet commercieel gebruik downloaden. De kleine stukjes in het patroon maken het onmogelijk het te verkleinen.

It is beautiful weather in the Netherlands and it will last for two more days this way. So I am going a long walk with my husband and grandson today. A nice walk at the seaside.

Omdat het zo mooi weer is ga ik vandaag eerst een mooie wandeling maken met mijn man en kleinzoon. Heerlijk in de duinen bij Castricum.

Patterns: Mad Bull and pottery (with tea bag)

Another busy week. I was busy with the administration of an organisation for swimming lessons for children of parents who cannot afford a lot of money for swimming lessons. Dutch children and children of immigrants. There is a lot of water in The Netherlands and every year there are more children who drown. There was a time every child learned to swim and went with the school to swimming lessons for free, but now it is the responsibility of the parents and swimming lessons are not cheap. One of the jobs I had to do is selling tickets for a lottery. I never thought I would do that!!

Drukke week. Ik zit sinds kort in het bestuur van een zwemclub die zwemlessen organiseert voor kinderen van ouders die niet veel geld voor zwemlessen kunnen betalen. Autochtone én allochtone kinderen uit Amsterdam en omgeving  De administratie is wat achter en het is een hoop werk. Ik wist niet dat er dit soort verenigingen bestonden in Nederland. Zo moet ik er nu ook aan geloven en loten verkopen voor de nationale clubloterij. Nooit gedacht dat ik dat zou doen!!

Mad family: Bull pattern

I finished the bull pattern of my Mad Cow family. I learned that it is so important to test a pattern before publishing. Sewing a green mad bull, I find out that my pattern was impossible to sew!! So I changed the pattern I treid to sew a Mad Bull again and it is OK now. The pattern is ready to download for your own non commercial use only. Ik heb het patroon van de stier van mijn Gekke Koeien familie deze week afgemaakt. I heb daarbj ontdekt hoe belangrijk het is een patroon te testen, omdat ik met mijn patroon de stier niet kon naaien. Met het aangepaste patroon lukte het wel! Het patroon is daarom nu te downloaden voor eigen, niet commercieel gebruik.

Cup and mug

I do not like to drink tea, So I do not why I made this pattern of a mug with a teabag?! But it is a easy fun pattern to sew. So is the the pattern of this coffee cup, easy with a pattern of one section.

Ik drink niet graag thee, dus ik snap niet waarom ik dit patroon van een beker met een theezakje heb gemaakt. Het is wel leuk en eenvoudig om te naaien. Dat geldt ook voor het patroon van het koffiekopje. Het patroon bestaat uit 1 deel.
