An owl and a sixpack

Months ago I made a pattern of an owl, but I did not do anything with it. This week I had a lot of fmq practice, but I wanted to do anything else So I took this lovely brown fabric amd sew this owl, The back is the same fabric. The quilting are branches and leaves.
You can download the pattern (6, 8 and 10 inch). I will add the rotary cut instructions for the 8 and 10 inch patterns, because you do not niet to paper piece this this.

Maanden geleden maakte ik dit uilenpatroon, maar ik heb er niets mee gedaan. Deze week heg ik veel geoefend met quilten uit de vrije hand, maar ik wilde wat anders. Ik had dit leuke bruine stofje en heb daarmee deze uil genaaid. Ik heb om de uil takken en bladeren gequilt. De achterkant is dezelfde bruine stof.

Ik kan me een prachtig baby quilt voorstellen met dit patroon. Ik doe er dan wel een of meer muizen bij.

I used a hopping foot to quilt, but with ky husqvarna it is possible to use a embroidery foot to quilt. the foot stays 1/8 inch above the fabric when sewing. I love the sound of the hopping foot, butnot my husband, I found this week a fmq tutorial on You Tube. The quilter used an embroidery feet!!! So I tried an embroidery foot and it is easy free motion quilting with a lot less noise. It was not easy and difficult to keep equal stitches with straight lines, but it is getting better already. My husband is happy with less noise!

Ik gebruikte altijd een hopping voetje om te quilten. Op You Tube zag ik een filmpje waarin gequild werd met een borduurvoetje dat boven het naaiwerk zweeft. Ik hou van het geluid van quilten met een hopping voetje, maar mijn man niet. Daarom probeerde ik het borduurvoetje op mijn zesde IKEA oefenplacemat. Het is zo heerlijk quilten, maar wel even wennen. Zeker met rechte lijnen. Maar mijn man is erblij mee.

I finished already a sixpack IKEA practice fmq placemats already. I have two to go. I bought some more IKEA fabric to practice straight lines with the embroidery foot. After all that practice it is time to finish the quilting of the chicken mini's.

Ik heb inmiddels een sixpack met IKEA quiltoefenplacemats gemaakt. De laatste zwevend met de borduurvoet. Ik maak er nog twee en dan ga ik oefenen met lange lijnen met een ander IKEA stofje. Als die oefeningen af zijn ga ik mijn kippen mini's quilten.

Helicopter for Guus

The Guus 1 ready to fly!!!

Every tuesday morning I pick up little Guus for a day. When we drive back to my house he is so happy to see trains (on a lucky day we see six trains!), buses, planes and lorries. I often go with him by bus! to the railway station. We go on the escalator or in a elevator to all the platforms to see trains arriving and leaving. We always have a stop at the café at platform 1, where I enjow a cappucino and the antique fourniture and Guus, standing on a chair, watch more trains arriving and leaving. When we wait for the bus to go back he can see the boats on the river IJ. Last week he was talking about helicopters. So I made a helicopter pattern for him. The pattern is finished and I tested the block. So next tuesday he will have his own helicopter placemat.

Elke woensdag haal ik kleine Guus op bij zijn ouders. Op de terugweg is hij blij bij elke trein, bus, vliegtuig en vrachtwagen die hij ziet. Als hij geluk heeft ziet hij wel zes treinen. Ik ga vaak met hem naar het Centraal station met de bus! We gaan dan met de roltrap of de lift naar alle perrons om treinen te zien aankomen of vertrekken. We eindigen op perron 1, waar ik geniet van een cappucino in het prachtige !e klasse café en Guus kijkt naar nog mer treinen. 'Als we op de bus terug wachten kan hij de boten op het IJ zien.
Van de week sprak hij over helicopters. Ik heb daarom een patroon van een helicopter gemaakt. Ik heb het blok getest en er een placemat voor hem van gemaakt. Volgende week heeft hij zijn eigen helicopter placemat.

When I was designing the helicopter pattern, I was a little bit disappointed. The pattern has so many little pieces and I wanted to have an easy pattern. It was not the simple pattern I had in mind. May be I used the wrong pictures and drawings for my design. It was after finishing the test block and preparing the pattern for publishing, that I found a simple pattern with only three sections and 23 pieces in stead of 49! I love version 1 of my helicopter and will use this pattern more often. But for a baby quilt or something like that I will use the pattern of helicopter.5
I wrote a lot of texts in the past. Every text needed a lot of version before publishing. I think with texts and patterns it is the same: it takes time to simplify!!

Toen ik het patroon ontwierp voor de helicopter vond ik het moeilijk om een eenvoudig patroon te maken. Misschien kwam het door de foto's van helicopters die ik gebruikte voor het ontwerp. as nadat ik het testblok had genaaid en het patroon had klaargemaakt voor mijn blog, kon ik een eenvoudiger blok maken. Een eenvoudig helicopter patroon dat uit 3 delen en 23 i.p.v. 49! malletjes bestaat. Ik vind helicopter.1 een mooi blok en ik zal het vaker gebruiken, maar voor een babyquilt slaapzakje of slabbetje gebruik ik helicopter.5
Ik heb heel wat teksten geschreven in het nog niet zo lange verleden. Ik denk dat het patronen net is als met teksten. Je moet de tijd nemen om het zo eenvoudig mogelijk te doen. Schrijven is schrappen. Dat geld voor patronen ook.

Fmq practice and a helicopter for Guus.

It is SPRING!!! I love the light when I wake up and when we are sitting in the room after dinner! Today was a very sunny day and it was not cold without a coat. I love the hyancinths on my terrace. Within three weeks we have a redo of our terrace. I hope we can enjoy our terrace a lot this year.

Heerlijk, eindelijk lente! Eindelijk een zonnige dag en ik geniet van de hyacinthen op mijn terras. Over een week of drie is ons terras vernieuwd met nieuwe tegels en planten. Ik hoop dat we deze zomer vaak van ons terras kunnen genieten.

This week I finished the free motion practice quilting of this table runner of IKEA Vinterbar fabric. I do love free mtion quilting again. It was a lot of micro quilting and the result is OK, but I lost a lot of routine in half a year. I decided to cut the runner in four placemats. I never use a tablerunner. Twee placemats are binded, For the other two I had to go to Ikea to buy some more cotton. I have another tablerunner sandwiched for more fmq practice and fun, I hope this time better stitches and a little mor speed this time.

Deze week heb ik uren gequild aan mijn oefentafelloper met Ikea Vinterbar katoen. Ik vind quilten uit de vrije hand leuk, zeker als het goed gaat, maar ik heb in een half jaartje heel wat routine verloren. Het resultaat van de tafelloper is OK, maar niet meer dan dat, De tafelloper is in vier placemats gesneden, want lopers gebruik ik eigenlijk nooit. Twee placemats zijn al afgebiesd, maar mijn Ikea katoen is op, dus moet ik naar IKEA.
Ik heb nog een tweede taffeloper liggen. Die ga ik volgende week quilten. Elke avond en uurtje. Ik hoop dat het nu beter en wat sneller gaat.

Flamingo parade

Flamingo parade tablerunner

A few montha ago I was inspired by the paper pieced cows and flamingos in RSC15 colors on the blog 'Not Afraid of Colors'. I knew I wanted to sew flamingos too and looked for a not too difficult pattern. I found some beautiful drawings and pictures of flamingos and played with EQ7 and the pictures. Here is a link to the post with the first tested flamingo pattern.

Een paar maanden terug zag ik elke maand de blokken in RSC15 kleuren van koeien en flamingos van 'Not afraid of Colors'. Ik wilde zelf ook flamingo's naaien en zocht naar niet te ingewikkelde paper piecing patronen. Die vond ik niet, wel mooie tekeningen en foto;s van flamingo's waarmee ik speelde met EQ7. I love flamingos together in rainbow colors. A flamingo parade is fun to show my flamingos. It will be a fun tablerunner! The pattern is not too complex and not to difficult to sew. On the pattern you find 6 x 10 inch blocks and 7.5/12.5 inch blocks for a flamingo and his mirror image.

I hou van flamingo;s in regenboogkleren. Een flamingoparade is dan leuk om ze allemaal op te laten draven. Een leuk patroon voor een tafelloper. Het patroon is niet erg ingewikkeld en niet moeilijk te naaien. Te te downloaden bestanden hebben patronen voor blokken van 6x10 en 7,5x 12,5 inch voor een flamingo en voor zijn spiegelbeeld.

Apple logo

14 inch block RSC16 March colors

\I bought a IPhone. The colors on my pictures are much better. I love the Apple logo and want to sew an apple block for a long time and made a pattern month ago. I had some deyed fabric in the right colors for the RSC16 month March colors so I made a block for a cushion for my daughter. I made the patterns for IPad, IPad aiir and IPad mini covers. I wil try to make a tiny,tiny Apple pattern for a cover for my IPhone. But I think applique is better.

Ik heb een nieuwe IPhone gekocht en die maakt veel mooiere foto's dan mijn oude Motorola. De kleuren zijn veel beter.Een hele tijd terug heb ik al eens een patroon gemaakt voor een Apple logo, dat ik erg mooi vind. Ik had nog wat geverfde katoen in the RSC16 march colors en daarvan een groot blok gemaakt voor een kussen voor mijn dochter, Ik wil nog wat IPad hoezen maken en daarom heb ik een patroon gemaakt voor een IPad, IPad Air en IPad mini. Ik wil een hoesje maken voor mijn IPhone met het logo, maar ik dank dat ik dat beter kan appliqueren.

I sandwiched a lot of my animal blocks and had to quilt and bind them. But I was so busy with paper piecing and did not practice quilting anymore. So my quilting is very rusty. When I visited with my daughter IKEA , Ifound this cotton with a beautiful pattern. It matches perfect with the tableware.I use when I cook a dinner for friends or family. I cutted and sandwiched two tablerunners (18 inch, 60 inch). and decided to practice machine quilting again every evening. I need improve my quilting and started yesterday evening.

Ik heb een aantal mini's met mijn dierenpatronen klaar leggen om doorgestikt te worden, maar mijn quilten is en beetje verwaarloosd door het maken van al die paper piece blokken. Toen ik met mijn dochter bij IKEA was, vond ik dit katoen met prachtig patroon. Het past perfect bij het servies dat ik gebruik als ik kook voor vrienden of familie. Dus ik heb twee tafelloper geknipt en ik ga voorlopig elke avond een uurtje quilten om mijn oude ritme en steken weer terug te krijgen. Gisteravond ben ik daarmee begonnen.

Flamingo

My eldest daughter is expecting twins! What a great news. It is so strange too see two childs on a echo! Hope everything is going well!!

Mijn oudste dochter verwacht een tweeling! Wat fijn news! Het is zo vreemd om twee babies te zien op een echo. Ik hoop dat alles goed gaat.

I love the work of Lee Anna of Not Afraid of Colors. Her drwawings, her experiments with dyeing fabric, her paperpiecing blocks in all that colors and beautful fabrics. Her cows made me sew my cows and I loved her chinaware. It made me draw my first paper piecing patterns and I sewed chinaware blocks by myself. I loved her flamingos too, and wanted to sew flamingos too, but I did not have a pattern. I made some patterns and today I tried the first pattern. I need to change the pattern because I found some minor mistakes and I could reduce the number of tamplates a little bit.

I hou van het werk van Leanne Paylor van Not afraid of colours U moet ens naar haar blog gaan en haar geverfde stoffen zien of haar blokken met prachtige kleuren en stofjes. Haar grappige koeien, zorgden ervoor dat ik ook koeien ging naaien en haar blokken met diggelwerk, zorgden ervoor dat ik dat soort patronen gng maken en blokken met koppen en schotels en potten en pannen ging naaien. Haar flamingo's vond ik ook leuk, maar ik had geen patroon. Nu heb ik zelf patronen van flamingo's gemaakt en vandaag mijn eerste flamingoblok genaaid. Ik heb het patroon wat aan moeten passen omdat er kleine foutjes in zaten en het aantal delen wat teruggebracht kon worden.
